The mysterious Yeti excites the imagination of many supernatural lovers. And until now, the secret of a huge hairy monster, similar to either a man or a giant gorilla, has not been revealed. Where is truth and where is fiction? Does Bigfoot really exist? No one can answer exactly, but we will be happy to tell you about the legends.

All over the world there are stories about a huge, overgrown man who resembles a monkey. The inhabitants of the Himalayas call it the Yeti, in the United States it is known as the Bigfoot, and in Canada it is nicknamed the Sasquatch. The similarity in the descriptions is undeniable.

The Bigfoot, as his name is in Russian, is a creature more than two meters tall, with thick brown or red hair growing all over its body. He has large feet, thick eyebrows, protruding brow ridges.

Especially many stories about Bigfoot have always appeared in mountainous areas or where there are relatively warm dense forests. Many Indian tribes have legends about a certain "wild man" who often took fish from the nets, but did not cause any harm to people, while other legends speak of an insidious and cruel creature that lives in the foothills.

Interest in the snow monster arose in the United States in 1958, after Gerald Crew discovered imprints of huge feet near the construction site where he worked, and made casts from them.

The story made it into the newspapers and became one of the most popular for a while, until it was revealed that the prints were made by the brother of the construction manager. Nevertheless, all this caused an increased curiosity about ancient legends and the appearance of several books about Bigfoot.

The real boom began in 1967, after Patterson shot a video in which Bigfoot was clearly visible running away from people. The video, however, raises many questions to this day. Patterson was known as a noble dreamer, and later Bob Hieronymus announced that it was he who was wearing the Bigfoot costume.

Most often, meetings with the Bigfoot turn out to be a prank or an attempt to attract attention to oneself. So, in 2008, Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer claimed that they managed to find and freeze the dead Bigfoot. Subsequently, it turned out that Bigfoot had rubber legs, and then those who found him admitted that they were joking.

Whatever the jokes, there were those who took the search for snowmen extremely seriously. Various governments have sent expeditions to find, capture, or kill Bigfoot. In 1954, the British equipped the expedition. According to the results, it was concluded that huge humanoid creatures live or lived in the Himalayas.

In 1955, footprints of the Yeti were discovered by a French expedition. One of the porters on the Argentine expedition was said to have been torn apart by Bigfoot. American millionaire Tom Slick financed three expeditions to the Himalayas, one of which was Gerald Russell. Many footprints, wool and even excrement were found, allegedly belonging to the Yeti, not to mention the stories about him from local residents.

All this led to the fact that in 1958 Nepal ranked the yeti as a protected species, and in 1961 began to sell licenses for its capture at a considerable price.

In 1958, the Soviet Union also joined the search for the Yeti. The Academy of Sciences has a "Commission for the Study of the Bigfoot." An expedition to the Pamirs was set up, headed by the botanist Kirill Stanyukovich. True, the expedition did not even include a single expert on primates, and it was not possible to find a Bigfoot.

The expedition nevertheless turned out to be useful and made it possible to create a geobotanical atlas of the Pamirs, but on this the subject of Bigfoot was officially closed by the Academy. Attempts to find him in the future were undertaken only by individuals and had no success. But messages about him appear from time to time. It is alleged that in 2008 in 2017 Bigfoot was seen near Vyatka.
