Men-en-Tol is undoubtedly the most famous megalithic structure in England after Stonehenge. It consists of three huge stones, located on one axis, oriented from southwest to northeast. The middle stone has a hole in the center, on either side of it there are two roughly cut menhirs. There are several more stones near them.
All these stones were installed about 3000-4000 years ago. During the excavations, it became known that their location changed over time. Experts still cannot say with certainty what the significance of this structure was and in what rituals it was used. It is generally accepted that the central stone was associated with initiation rites, although it could have been used to interpret heavenly signs.
Whatever the original purpose of the megaliths, they continue to fascinate people with their mystery. It is not surprising that over time, many traditions have appeared associated with such monuments. For example, it has long been believed that a woman dreaming of a child must climb through the hole in the central stone seven times on a full moon. Another long-standing belief says that this action heals back and joint pain.
Children who have passed through a hole in the stone several times supposedly become immune to disease, and they also say that the stone was used for fortune telling and removing curses, therefore one of its names is the Devil's Stone.
Ancient spiritual teachings say that in order to receive new energy, you must first make room for it. Over the millennia, thousands of people have sought and found power in places like Men-en-Tol.
