The girl felt drowsy and felt that her coordination and communication abilities had diminished. This went on for several days, then she fell ill. During her illness, she had a near-death experience, or, as she says, a "hellish experience."
She was lying in bed, suddenly her head became so heavy that she could not lift it. “I realized I couldn't get out of bed and I started to panic,” she says in a video on NDEvideos.com.
All her senses sharpened; she saw bright colors, felt different tastes and aromas, heard sounds. She clearly saw flowers, mountains, and buildings.
Then there was a "sense of omnipresent threat," she said. She saw her own body lying in bed. She saw him from above, this is a common phenomenon during NDEs.
The girl was not scared. She then saw her mother in hospital quarantine. In 2001, her mother was quarantined to protect her, weakened by colorectal cancer, from bacteria. Then she died.
Geurts felt pain, and then it was carried through the tunnel, which was getting narrower.
“Then I was at the gate … I had to make a choice,” she recalls. Her mother was on the other side of the gate. "The transition meant death." She left her mother outside the gate and the gate closed.
After that, the whole life flashed before my eyes, starting from birth. It was like looking at photographs, Geurts says. Images of family members flashed before my eyes. Many people who have experienced clinical death say they have seen a retrospective of their lives.

She felt that something worse lay ahead of her. She was exhausted and did not know if she could survive it. “I call it a hellish experience,” she says.
“I saw many hands and heard many screams. They shouted that I did something wrong, - recalls Geurts. “Suddenly I saw a silhouette of a man, a shadow, I didn't know who it was.”
She screamed and came to herself. A policeman and a doctor were in the room.
It was a frightening experience, but it helped her reflect on her relationship, her views, and her mother's death.
When hands reached out to her and voices shouted, it seemed to her that they wanted to drag her to "the place that people call hell." She continued to apologize and ask the question, "Why?"
Coming to her senses, she pondered this question. As a child, she had a difficult relationship with her mother. Geurts recalls the period shortly before his mother's death.
“I suddenly realized that I had never called her once during my 10-month tour of Australia,” Geurts said. She wondered why no one understood that her mother was sick. Why did she have to go through this alone?
She learned some other lessons from the "hellish experience": she should never lie or be jealous. She had a lot of envy towards her sisters.
Geurts says: "The near-death experience was like an interrogation: I was asked all the time why I was so indifferent to my mother."
