Lindsay Ess, a 29-year-old American woman, underwent a double transplant after having all her limbs removed 5 years ago due to a terrible infection.
She fell into deep depression due to a hopeless situation and did not even dream that her life could be the same again.
“In 2007, the doctors told me the terrible news: I was diagnosed with sepsis, a medical serious condition caused by infectious agents entering the bloodstream,” recalls a resident of the American state of Texas. “They confronted me with the fact that I needed to remove my legs and arms, as the disease progresses and my life is in danger.

Two years later, doctors at one of the medical centers at the University of Pennsylvania offered the American a rare hand transplant. The doctors told Lindsay that the donor hands had to be suitable for her not only in terms of blood and tissue compatibility, but also in size and skin color.
“It was only after the loss of limbs that I began to appreciate many moments from my past,” Ess admitted. - Habitual actions have become an unaffordable luxury for me.
While waiting for a donor, the girl learned how to apply makeup on her own, write SMS, and also use some electrical appliances without using her hands. The situation of the American got a little easier after she was presented with prosthetic legs. In a short time, Ess mastered the specialized device so well that she even began to wear high-heeled shoes.
