When I was twelve years old, I lived with my grandparents in a house that was built during her youth. And next to it there was an old house inherited by my grandmother. At that time he was about 200 years old. Grandmother called him a hut or a hut. It was built from twigs mixed with clay, and later plastered and whitewashed.

Once the roof of the hut was thatched. Later it was blocked. I remember well the powerful foundation of the hut, protruding one meter, a stove, and carved shutters. Grandfather did not allow the building to collapse, he carried out repairs every year.

We used the duster as a repository for all kinds of trash that might come in handy someday. And sometimes, if many guests came, they spent the night there: there was not enough room in the big house for everyone.

My relatives claimed that a brownie lived in the hut. It was said that he discovered himself more than once. According to them, from time to time, even during the day, for no reason, dishes rang in the old sideboard. And at night, the invisible man could tickle the sleeping guests and grab their faces.

I tried to find a reasonable explanation for all this. For example, the clinking dishes could be the result of the vibration of the old foundation when trucks were passing along the highway. And the guests could be tickled by a cat from a neighboring house that had sneaked into the hut at night.

Once I had to spend the night in a hut, but, thank God, not alone, but with my aunt. After a hearty dinner with the guests, we took with us a plastic bag with chocolates and went to the hut.

Then, however, they decided that it was too late to eat sweets, it was bad for the figure. Therefore, we tied the bag in a knot and put it on the same sideboard, in which the dishes rattled from time to time at night.

My aunt fell asleep quickly, but I couldn't doze for a long time. There was a feeling that someone was watching me intently. Then the sideboard trembled. At the same time, not a single car passed along the road. My heart was beating more and more strongly, from fear I could not move, as if I was paralyzed.

Then I heard the rustle of a bag. Someone persistently tried to untie him. Aunt at this time snored with might and main, the door was locked with a strong bolt, no one could enter … Finally, the invisible man, apparently, coped with the bag, and there was a rustle of candy wrappers. Again, I tried to find an explanation for this.

“Probably the mouse is gnawing candy,” I reassured myself. So I gradually calmed myself and fell asleep.

The next morning I woke up before everyone else, checked the door. It was locked. Aunt was still fast asleep. I immediately went to check the bag of candy to make sure it was a mouse. However, the package was untied, its edges were neatly equally wrapped on all sides. From most of the sweets, only candy wrappers remained - quite intact, not gnawed. All the remaining candies were opened and bitten.

Even after this incident, I still had doubts about the existence of the brownie. But they soon scattered. Once I had to go to the hut for some thing.

I peered into the darkness, looked for a switch on the wall, and when I turned on the light, I saw a fluffy black round lump, which deftly jumped from the stove to the bench, from it to the floor. Then he ran around the corner of the stove and disappeared into the back room. It was noticeable that he did not expect me to appear.

I screamed and rushed out of the hut. Now I knew that this was the same brownie that I was told about. After all, mice are not like that!
