What "unknown animal" were the first "gods"?
Speaking about the technologies of the ancient "gods", we still invariably come to the question: who were they in reality? Human or not? If not, what were they? Why is there so much confusion in this seemingly quite simple question?.. Let's try to assume the following, adhering to the logic and information available at the moment as much as possible.
It is likely that the very first of the ancient "gods" were not born on Earth. They really came from another planet from another star system (exiles or reconnaissance expedition) in relatively small numbers - a maximum of 150-200 individuals or even less (on which all myths, without exception, agree). And they, the "gods" - aliens were not really anthropomorphic, they were not people. It was a different kind. By our standards, they were closer to amphibians, reptiles. The reconstruction of their appearance shows an elongated skull, and blue blood flowed in their veins (like that of earthly octopuses). Unfortunately, more details are difficult to establish.
There were few of them, they were stuck here on Earth, and, despite their longer lifespan, compared to humans, they were doomed to extinction.
Man (sapiens) was improved by them with the help of gene technologies as a "voluntary-compulsory helper" for their needs. This happened about 70 thousand years ago. The "gods" mined resources here and managed to establish their bases on our planet.
The biolaboratory was for the first people a “paradise” (Eden), but then they were given some knowledge, banished to free lands and forced to plow hard. What a horror! That's the whole story of the "apple fall" …

In the future, the "gods" began to interbreed with people - not necessarily through direct physical contact, probably it was the artificial fertilization of terrestrial "females", for procreation. Crossbreeding of different species, as is known from biology, has certain competitive advantages. However, the "gods" did not have much choice. For some reason, they could not fly away from here.
This is how “demigods” appeared - a derivative of two types, an earthly man and an alien. And some "demigods" (in the future, inevitably "quarter-gods" and so on) at birth turned out to be more similar to humans ("human-like", anthropomorphic gods), while others - to something else … not ours. Let's call it "serpentine".
Hence the emergence of clans. Hence the differences. Suras and Asuras. “Gods” and “demons” (note, in the myths they were related, and among the “demons-asuras” quite virtuous and reasonable specimens are described!). Or ancient strange races - "Fomorians" and others. From there, the appearance of mermaids, say, sea people. Impurities, genes. Nagas, serpent people are the heirs of "gods" and people, in whom the genes of the heavenly ancestors leapt more. That's all.
The "anthropomorphic" demigods for some reason (is it only the power?..) were at enmity with the "serpentine" ones, although they were "brothers and sisters." And they won.
Also, human genes were stronger on their home planet, there are much more people, and "semi-hybrid" species and forms could not reproduce in the long term.
The "original gods" themselves briefly survived the Flood, as is known from myths. And already from the 8th millennium BC. all this is already "demigods" - they play pranks, quarrel, fight, solve their problems … That is, after all, "almost people" - only with an admixture of higher knowledge and other genes.
"Remnants of the blood of the gods", as we know from history, no longer gave any special advantages. Remember Akhenaten or his son Tutankhamun, the very distant heirs of the "gods." An effeminate body, a tummy, a bouquet of deviations and various diseases. Alas and ah. Genetics.
By that time, probably, there were no "gods" at all. Heirs only. Whether they died or did they fly home - that's another question …
