Abnormal zones in Udmurtia are not uncommon. One of these is K-16. The Sphere X researchers studied the area for two years. And now some details have become clear about the unusual possibilities of foliage from this territory
During the entire existence of the Sphere X project - and this is 14 years - the K-16 zone turned out to be the most interesting. It is located in the south of Udmurtia. And the locals often complained about screams, flying balloons and a lot of accidents around this place. [The zone itself is a forest area with a small clearing. The territory is about 2 hectares.
For the first time, the expedition went to this area in 2010. Armed with instruments - a dosimeter, cameras, a video camera and an electromagnetic field meter, the company moved into the depths of the forest.
At a certain moment, the device began to record an increased electromagnetic background - which meant approaching the anomalous zone.
“As soon as we reached the epicenter, there was a feeling that the energy was coming out of the ground and spreading,” says Valery, a member of the expedition. - Our blood pressure rose, breathing became more frequent, our head began to spin. We were 45 minutes in this zone, and it got very bad, and we left.
They were not the only ones who complained about feeling unwell. Foresters who worked in the area were often fired due to poor health. It became difficult for them to walk and the blood spoiled. The doctors suggested some diagnoses, but the drugs didn't help. And now they strongly recommend not to visit this territory.

Vegetable incomprehensibility
In addition to the standard set of anomalous zone - a person's poor health and the difficulty of getting out of it, it contains biological non-standards.
“Indeed, there are small anomalies in this area,” says Dmitry Adokhovsky, senior lecturer at the Department of General Ecology at UdSU. - But you cannot blame all the anomalies on the territory, the soil is very poor here, and many incomprehensible things happen precisely because of it.
There is a place on the territory where the trees lie like the sun. In the center there is a stump - 3 meters high, and around it there are 12 - 15 trees, presumably ash trees. As if something fell from above and crushed them so beautifully.
“There is an opinion that a hurricane did it,” says Valery. - But for Udmurtia it is a great rarity. Especially if you take into account the relief - now the plain, then the hills - the probability of a hurricane is minimal.
To this, biologists say that only from human influence could this happen. But who needed it remains a mystery.
The branches of the tree grow at a 90 degree angle.
The trees growing nearby are especially surprising. In some representatives, the core comes out and grows separately from the tree. Either two different species grow from the same root, or the tree is completely uprooted from the ground, so that not a single piece of root is left in the soil.
The tree branches grow unusually. In some cases, they resemble a bayonet, in others they sharply change the direction of growth so that an angle of 90 degrees is obtained.
One tree especially interested researchers. There was a hole near the roots. It feels like someone climbed out of the tree. The diameter is about 20 cm. The inside of the tree was completely empty, although the leaves were growing, and it seemed quite alive. How this is possible if there is no core is not clear.
It seems that someone lived in this tree. More precisely, he used it as an overnight stay, for example, a marten or a ferret. But spruce is not used for such purposes, and animals do not appear on this territory.
An anthill grows in the very epicenter - at first glance, it is quite healthy. But animals don't go there.
- There is such an animal path, - says Valery. - Actually, along this path, we reached the zone. But then the path turns and, as it were, bypasses K-16.
Apparently, the animals sense that something is amiss.
Technique goes crazy
After the trip to this area, the electromagnetic wave meter broke down. As soon as we approached the territory, it began to hum - it shows that the background is increased. And while the researchers roamed the territory, he did not stop informing them about the danger.
And he still buzzes like an institute. Experts cannot understand what is wrong with him.
But that's not all. One of the protesters had a broken watch. One of the gears in the mechanism bent like a wave. Moreover, there were no special conditions for this - the watch was not dropped, it did not knock.
The core of the tree comes out.
Fainting foliage
For a deeper study, Valery took samples of soil and foliage - fallen and green.
The soil turned out to be interesting. It contained only bacteria, not a single one-celled one. When Valery multiplied the ciliates and put them in this soil, they simply died, and had to feed on bacteria.
And with foliage, he conducted whole research. It turned out that when a girl touches dry foliage, she begins to feel bad, even fainting. But at the same time, the girl must sit.
“The first time I noticed this was with my ex-wife,” says Valery. - She decided to look at samples from the area and kept them just in a bag. After about ten minutes she turned pale and began to complain of feeling unwell. The sample bag fell out of her hands, and she immediately felt better. The same thing happened to my niece.
Sphere X researchers will continue to explore the area and plan to travel there this year.
What the skeptics are talking about
It is difficult for ordinary people to understand what is so unusual about trees. Things are even stranger in our life. In order to answer the question whether it is an anomaly or not, we turned to Olga Baranova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Botany and Plant Ecology at UdSU, and to Dmitry Adokhovsky, Senior Lecturer at the Department of General Ecology of UdSU.
“I don’t see anything abnormal here,” says Olga Baranova. - For two different trees to grow so close to each other, it is enough for seeds of different types to fall side by side. And a tree uprooted is a spruce. Her root system is superficial. And, if the tree is dry, a strong wind flow is enough for it to fall by the roots. There is an explanation about the core growing outside - when the growth of branches is disturbed, they simply break, they begin to grow from the lateral buds. This is how curved branches, undulating trunks and a core growing outside are obtained.
Dmitry Adokhovsky has a slightly different opinion.
- It is quite normal for two different trees to grow from the same root. They just fused at the root. And about the core, we can say that this is really abnormal. I have never met such a thing, and the fact that it later grew together again is strange. And branches growing at an angle of 90 degrees are just an example of the negative impact of the zone.
