Archaeologists of the expedition of the Novgorod State University (NovGU) found two applied seals of the 14th century at the Pyatnitsky excavation in Staraya Russa, said Pavel Kolosnitsyn, head of the cabinet-museum of archeology of Novgorod State University.

The finds were made on Saturday 22 July. The imprint of the first seal depicts a humanoid creature, the second - a beast.

“It looks like a bone pawn with a hole for a lace. And if you turn it over, then on the print is such a miracle. On reflection, we decided that it was still an angel. Although it looks more like an alien,”said P. Kolosnitsyn.

Regarding the second seal, which depicts the beast, the scholar stated:

“Images of such animals have come across more than once at the Pyatnitsky excavation site. In the Middle Ages, there was a manor in this place and, perhaps, its owners chose the animal as a symbol or coat of arms."

P. Kolosnitsyn also suggested that the seals belonged to the same owner and were lost at the same time, since a braided cord was found next to them for wearing seals on the chest.

By the way, earlier this summer in Staraya Russa archaeologists found a clay figurine of an unknown animal. On the Internet, in some places she was nicknamed "waiting", as she looks like the character of a famous meme. Who this creature really is, archaeologists find it difficult to say, but they immediately noticed the resemblance to a dinosaur (and in a collar!).

“A whistle was found at the fifth site in the layers of the 18th-17th centuries. Such a good one, zoomorphic, almost intact, with four holes. Here are just the beast she depicts - naturally a dinosaur. And even in a collar. Long neck, short legs. It's a pity that the muzzle was chipped off,”writes Pavel Kolosnitsyn, head of archaeological work, in his blog.
