It happened on an early winter morning in 1975. Spouses Barry and Elaine traveled with their two young children to the village of Slitting Mill in Staffordshire, UK. They were returning home after Christmas in the nearby town of Penkridge.
Suddenly, the engine of their car began to make a loud noise and then stopped. The couple with their children found themselves on an empty road in a wooded area in an idle car, which they hardly managed to roll to the side of the road. Barry did not consider himself a good mechanic, but nevertheless opened the hood of the car and began to look at what's what. But at first glance, nothing indicated that there was some kind of breakdown.
The nearest houses were no more than a mile away and Barry decided he would have to walk.
“We had a picnic blanket in the trunk and I took it out. Then he returned to Elaine, who was sitting with our two children, 4 and 6 years old, who were still dozing, and threw a blanket over them. Then I told them to stay in the car, and I would go to the city, find some other car and return for them as soon as possible. The car will have to be left here in order to call a mechanic to it tomorrow."
And at that moment Elaine, who looked at the road behind her husband's back, screamed loudly in fear. She saw a small creature run across the road not far from them. It moved very quickly and Barry himself saw it only when it was almost disappearing behind the curb.
“I managed to see him only at the last second, but after him another creature of the same kind ran across the road, and then a third. It's hard for me to describe what they looked like, most of all a rather hairy troll fits their description. It was early morning and the moon was hanging over the road and we could see these creatures well in the moonlight. They looked like little men with humps on their backs and large, curved noses.
They had no clothes on, but their bodies were covered with long hair. I would say that each of them was about 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and when the last of them crossed the road, the rest stood on the side of the forest and looked at it, it seemed to me, wary."
The rest of the details of the meeting Barry remembers with great difficulty, everything was like a fog. He remembers that these creatures, after crossing the road, very slowly went straight to the people and looked at them, as if they were interested in the appearance of people.

They moved so slowly, as if they were sneaking up on prey, so Elaine became hysterical at the sight of this, the children also began to cry and Barry himself admits that he was also close to this state.
“And that's all we remember. What happened next, none of us can remember, although as it turned out, almost two hours had passed. And our car suddenly started working again. But we definitely remember that these creatures were there."
Barry says that now he and his wife are over 60 years old, but they still feel uncomfortable with the memory of that event and they still do not remember how their meeting with the hairy trolls ended.
“But we know what we are talking about, all this happened and we remember them. The children, fortunately, did not remember anything, but we remember the details of how they looked, they were all in their hair, they were something like trolls or goblins and were completely real. Neither Elaine nor I have subsequently encountered anything paranormal, but this event has forever cut into our hearts."

This story has another interesting detail. The village of Slitting Mill and nearby Penkridge appear in several other eyewitness accounts as places where people saw large hairy humanoid creatures - British Bigfoots.
On February 18, 1995, not far from Slitting Mill, a woman named Jackie Houghton saw from her car a huge, clumsy creature overgrown with fur. Jackie even had to sharply turn the steering wheel to the side - she almost collided with this giant when he unexpectedly came out onto the road just six meters from the car.
And if you consider that the woman was driving at high speed, it’s just a miracle that she didn’t run over an outlandish creature - tall, densely covered with hair, with two glowing red eyes. According to Jackie Houghton, it quickly disappeared among the trees.
And three years later, in September 1998, another meeting took place. People who were driving at night in a car later said that the creepy animal was large, masculine, two meters tall and leaned slightly forward when moving. His legs are twice as thick as human ones, his coat is dark blackish-brown. And when this "forest man" passed by, for a moment he turned his head towards the car and looked directly at the people. And they still have goosebumps at the memory of this look.
In December 2003, local newspapers published a story told by a young man named Craig. He met with a large ape-like creature near the city of Penkridge.
Is it possible that the “hairy trolls” Barry and Elaine saw were the children of these local Bigfoots, or are they a different species? In any case, the large concentration of these creatures in a rather small area in densely populated England is in itself a very unusual thing.
