In the spring of 1999, a series of explosions occurred near the village of Ushakovo, Fatezhsky District, Kursk Region, the cause of which has not been clarified to this day.
Experts carefully examined the territory, but they did not manage to find traces of any explosives. According to the official version, the explosions were caused by a meteorite falling.
In the summer of 1999, the area near Ushakov was explored by a group from the Kosmopoisk association. They came to the conclusion that the processes taking place in the bowels of the planet were the cause of the explosions.
The fishermen who were on the pond about 100 meters from the epicenter of the explosions and several elderly people witnessed the explosions. The fishermen fled in horror.
According to another eyewitness who lives in the village of Ushakovo, “… stones flew into the air there, the earth - about five meters, and then the water gushed out, and the ferry sucked in everything … were afraid."
Later it was found that the explosions had thrown out about 4,000 tons of earth. Local residents agreed that a very powerful explosion first thundered. Then there was another one, but not so strong.
The villagers heard the third explosion about a day later at the same place. Eyewitnesses report that a stream of mud erupted from the epicenter, which reached the pond and broke the ice. At the same time, not a single glass was broken or even cracked in the village. And this despite the fact that 100 meters from the explosions, the ears were literally buried.

Later, near the village of Labazovka, local residents discovered 7 more craters formed from similar explosions. They all seemed to be on the same line. They, like the Fatezh funnels, were studied by specialists. Here is the official conclusion made by the scientists: “The explosion was probably caused by a carrier object of high kinetic and thermal energy. Judging by the direction of the ejection of soil, the fall of the object took place from the south (southeast) direction.
The melting of the coastal part of the ice on the pond may have occurred due to the falling of debris (particles) of the object on it. Burnt holes up to 5 cm in diameter were also observed in ice blocks scattered around the crater and hanging along the edges of the crater.
Based on the increased, relative to the ambient background, radiation in the funnel zone, it should be assumed that the explosion was caused by a meteorite falling. Subsequent explosions are the result of the release of steam or the ignition of a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen during the decomposition of water from high temperatures."
However, soil scientists disagree with the official findings. They continue to insist that the blast wave came from the bowels of the earth. However, what could have exploded with such tremendous force and heated the soil up to several thousand degrees remains unclear. It should be noted that the background radiation in the funnels is 2 times higher than normal.
Similar funnels of unknown origin were found earlier. So, in 1961, a forester discovered a similar crater on the shore of Lake Korb. Moreover, where did the thousands of cubic meters of soil thrown out of it go, this question remained unanswered. Later, part of it was found at the bottom of the lake. Under it were unusual hollow black balls and strange green ice.
In April 1991, on the outskirts of the city of Sasovo in the Ryazan region, a powerful explosion thundered. The air wave from it knocked out the glass in the windows of houses, and also tore off the doors in some places and destroyed the walls. The explosion left a crater 4 m deep and 30 m in diameter, which soon filled with water. The experts who arrived did not make unambiguous conclusions about the cause of the explosion. In June 1992, another crater was discovered near Sasovo, which was 12 m in diameter and 4 m in depth.
In May 1994, two craters appeared near the Kursk nuclear power plant. As in other cases, the soil thrown out of them disappeared without a trace. Local residents saw a UFO over the scene the day before, then pillars of fire formed in the sky and explosions were heard.
One way or another, but the territory on which the Fatezh craters are located is clearly unfavorable for people. Many of those who visited this area experienced sudden malaise, the cause of which could not even be determined by the doctors. In addition, the disease passed as suddenly as it began. The local population is trying to bypass this "cursed place" side.
