Residents of the village of Pobedino, Sakhalin Oblast of the Russian Federation, decided to resort to barbaric medieval practices and teach a lesson to the "witch" who supposedly lives among them. The villagers, fortunately, did not touch the young woman herself, who is accused of witchcraft, but in the absence of the mistress, they burned her house. Now Russian human rights lawyers are trying to restore justice. According to lawyers, this, unfortunately, is far from an isolated case in our country.
Oleg Vnukov, a local resident, turned to the bar association after the house of his 26-year-old fellow countrywoman Varvara Nigmatulina was burned down by an angry mob. Vnukov says that the situation with work in the village is very bad, and many drink too much or add to drugs. One of these people was the 38-year-old husband of Varvara, who recently committed suicide. Other villagers then called the young woman a witch and accused her of her husband's death, and then completely burned down the widow's dwelling. Now Nigmatulina was left with the children on the street, and those around her refuse to help her, because they either hate or are afraid of the woman. Undoubtedly, in such a situation, she fears for her life and for the lives of her children.
Lawyers report that such cases are not uncommon in Russia. Residents of remote and disadvantaged settlements, having seen enough of various pseudo-naun TV shows and following outdated beliefs, begin to persecute neighbors, calling them witches or sorcerers. Experts warn that this phenomenon is capable of taking over the entire country if the Russians do not stop believing in all sorts of nonsense and will not be educated.
