You are probably familiar with the biblical story of Jonah, who for his sins was doomed to dwell in the belly of a whale. But could a person actually get there?
And the Lord commanded the big whale to devour Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights.
Oddly enough, but such an experiment really took place. It all happened quite by accident: in 1896, a huge sperm whale knocked down a harpooner, James Bartley, from the deck of the East Star.
It seemed that this was the end of the story. However, a couple of days later, the whalers overtook the sea monster and dragged it to the deck. When cutting, the same harpooner was found in the stomach, showing signs of life.
The sailor was incredibly lucky. It remained in the first section of the stomach, since the channel to the next sections, where gastric juice is already produced, turned out to be too narrow for a person.
