A small British company made the first fuel out of thin air using revolutionary technology that could help resolve the energy crisis.
Air Fuel Synthesis has produced 5 liters of fuel since August when it launched a small plant to produce liquid fuels from carbon dioxide and water vapor.
The company hopes that in two years it will be able to build a larger plant capable of producing a ton of fuel per day. While the process is still in its early stages and needs electricity from the national grid, the company believes it will eventually be possible to harness the power of renewable sources, wind farms or tidal dams.
“We took carbon dioxide from air and hydrogen from water and turned these elements into fuel. Nobody does anything like this, either in our country or abroad, as far as we know, - said the head of the company Peter Harrison. - Our fuel is capable of operating in existing engines. This means that the existing transport infrastructure can be used”.
Recall that the developers of alternative fuels have previously created it from human feces, from chicken fat and pork fat, from agricultural waste, as well as from waste from cafes and restaurants and from waste in the production of whiskey, from algae, from wine, from ordinary Russian straw and from Chinese straw, from tree mushrooms, from oranges and from sunflower oil. In 2008, water fuel was created by Indonesian Joko Suprarto, but later he was declared a charlatan. His Blue Energy invention, allegedly made with water, turned out to be regular diesel when tested at the state technology agency. But Suprarto said that this is what confirms that his fuel from water is the real thing, and he created it by electrolysis, separating hydrogen from oxygen contained in water, and then converting it into synthetic fuel.
However, according to scientists, the current British fuel from air can really change the natural and economic landscape of the world, says InoPressa. Initially, the innovative fuel produced is supposed to be mixed with conventional fuel. The technology is also ideal for remote areas that have sufficient renewable energy sources but limited storage capacity.
Although the prototype system is designed to remove carbon dioxide from the air, this part of the process is still too inefficient for commercial use. However, Professor Klaus Lackner of Columbia University in New York notes that the high cost of any new technology always drops sharply over time.
