There are many haunted houses around the world, but there have been stories about houses for a long time, which in themselves represent a big mystery, as they can appear or disappear right before our eyes.
In the late 19th century, the legend of a ghost house, which was located somewhere in Suffolk, England, spread. One warm summer evening in 1860, a farmer named Robert Palfrey was working in his field when he suddenly felt a real frosty cold, from which he immediately chilled.
When he looked around, he suddenly saw a majestic red brick mansion surrounded by green gardens next to a field. The farmer had never seen this house nearby before, but when he wanted to approach it, the house disappeared into thin air as suddenly as it appeared right before his eyes.
The farmer never saw this house again, but his great-grandson James Cobbold saw the same house in 1912. He said that together with his partner he was in the same area where his great-grandfather's field had once been, and just like him, he suddenly felt a strong cold.
After that, the men heard a loud whistling sound, as if something huge had passed through a large volume of air. When Kobbold and his partner looked up, they spotted a luxurious three-story red-brick Georgian house. The house was surrounded by a lush flowering garden.
And just like his great-grandfather, James did not even have time to approach this house. A couple of minutes later, the mansion was surrounded by a misty haze and it disappeared into nothingness.
Several more years passed. In 1926, a young teacher and her student were walking through the same area of Suffolk when they stumbled upon a massive house with a wall around it, an imposing iron gate, and a green garden. When the teacher later asked local residents about the house, she was told that such a house had never existed in the area.

The next year, this teacher decided to come to this place again with the same student. The mystery of the missing house haunted her.
“My student and I went on foot to the same place the next spring. It was, as I recall, an ordinary boring day with good weather. It was March or the very end of February. We walked through the barnyard as before, and then walked along the road where, as we remember, a year ago there was a house with a wall and a garden. And when we got to this place, we both stopped and gasped in one voice "Where is the wall?"
There was no wall. There was only a ditch by the road, and beyond the ditch lay a wasteland with weeds and bumps, completely overgrown. Where the garden should have been. We walked along the road, but further there was no gate or any corner of the house.
We were both very puzzled. At first we thought that the house and the walls had been torn down since our last visit, but close inspection showed that there is a pond in the middle of the wasteland and several more bodies of water that have apparently been here for many years.
This incident was particularly described in the 1934 book "Apparitions and Haunted Houses" by Edward Bennett.
