Summer evening. After a preliminary phone call, a graceful and well-mannered lady, who looked about sixty years old, appeared at the gun of our headquarters. And so it turned out. Valentina Ivanovna turned out to be a retired literature teacher. She lived on the first floor of the house number … on the street. Banykin in the Central District. The windows overlooked the forest, over which, on the occasion of age-related insomnia, she had the opportunity to observe the maneuvers of various UFOs. But that was not the only thing that brought her to us. Shortly before visiting us, changing clothes (and she lived alone) this woman wanted to hang a dress on the chair, turned to the chair and … saw two legs sitting on it. The legs sat quietly, did not move. They looked like ordinary human legs, only covered with black tights. In the place that was supposed to go into the torso,Our observer did not see any features - the same blackness as in the rest of this vision. Shocked by surprise, the landlady froze in place with a dress in her hands. Legs in the collision of "foreheads" did not hesitate to disappear.
The dowsing survey of the apartment did not reveal any special anomalies, inquiries made it possible to establish that other poltergeist events took place in Valentina Ivanovna's apartment, but they were insignificant and rare.
At that point in time, we could only assume that this event belongs to the category of poltergeists, which in everyday life is called ghosts. In such cases, a visually distinguishable image appears in front of the observer, but the nature of this image is not the material we are used to, but hallucinatory (through the effect of a chemical or field factor on the perceiving organ) or holographic.
However, it turned out that we gave up on this fact early. As it turned out, this is not the only example of an unconventional type of ghosts who, like the headless horseman, come into a house with their feet alone.
A few months after Valentina Ivanovna's visit, our own colleague, a member of the research group, came to us in no less shock. In the evening he decided to watch TV. The wife was preparing dinner, the son had not yet returned from the walk. Suddenly, with a peripheral vision, Alexander noticed a strange "half-hearted" figure. In the doorway of his bedroom stood … modern plaid trousers with boots. Half a body is - half a body is not. By the way, the man did not remember any acquaintances who had such clothes. His pants crumpled on the threshold, stood "facing" the landlord, and then quickly stepped back and disappeared behind the jamb. Rushing in pursuit, the owner naturally did not find anyone in the room. The wife of the strange visitor did not notice - either the borscht took all her attention, or the "lower half" of the visitor managed to slip unnoticed to the exit.

There were both these cases for a long time. And when the array of events accumulated over many years became so large that it became possible to analyze it and identify some patterns, we managed to single out a special category of poltergeists accompanied by the appearance of ghostly figures.
One of the typical categories of such anomalous phenomena is the appearance of light or dark human silhouettes, sometimes similar to a shadow. These silhouettes can be male and female, sometimes they even enter into conversation with the residents of the apartment where they are. Often (although this is not a mandatory rule) poltergeists of this type appear when "well-wishers" use some magical tricks to address the owners of the apartment.

As a rule, the “guest” always appears unexpectedly. The reaction of people to an unwelcome visit varies from panic to complete indifference. If a person had a chance to fight with such a "ghost", then after a fight a person often discovers on his body not ghostly bruises and scratches, which are sometimes very painful, and sometimes disappear literally in a matter of hours.
For example, here's what one young man told us - a boxing coach who worked as a watchman in a kindergarten. The walls of one of the rooms were completely covered with mirrors. And then one night a young man sat down in a chair in this hall, having previously dimmed the light. And then right from the mirrored wall appeared the figure of an ugly woman in a white robe, with black eyes and black unkempt hair. The vision pounced on him and began to choke him, and grabbed him across the body in his arms so that he could not move his arm or leg, and even breathing became difficult. At that moment, he understood where the expression "went to his heels" came from. It seemed to him that all the forces that were in his body had gone down somewhere, and the body itself was completely incapacitated.
This whole nightmare lasted about two minutes. It is interesting that on both sides of him and this old woman there were as if observers (it is clear from the situation that the young man did not see the details of their appearance). During this single combat, the lady seemed to be saying something in his ear, but he could not make out the words, but only heard a growl. Suddenly the old woman let him go and went to the same place - in the mirror, everyone who watched followed her. Taking a breath, the guy that night chose to wait for the end of the watch in another room of this kindergarten. But when the first fear was gone, the experiment was repeated - and this old woman appeared more than once.

Is it possible to capture ghosts with the help of some technical devices? Yes, sometimes it works. For example, there are photographs of the so-called "White Lady" - a ghost that many times appeared before the eyes of eyewitnesses in castles in England. Often, eyewitnesses note that before the appearance of this ghost, an uncomfortable sensation arises or an unreasonable unnatural chill runs through the body.
Or one more example, when a guest from the unknown world got caught in the camera lens. Five and a cat were photographed. In the picture came out … six and a cat. There was no one in the apartment except these five guys. Therefore, the nature and origin of the sixth participant in the photo session (not counting the cat) is not possible to establish. For ethical reasons, the faces of the five real people in the photograph have been retouched.
However, a person is a creative creature, so not all photographs can be trusted. For example, one of our colleagues once tried to deceive, saying that a ghost was captured on the ruins of an old building. And they showed a photo. Quite simple manipulations showed that this was not a ghost, but “photoshopping”.
The second category of poltergeists is the appearance (and then disappearance) of animals in enclosed spaces. These animals look completely real. More often there are reports of pets, less often - about visions of any chimeras (dogs with human heads, etc.) For example, an elderly Togliatti couple comes home, goes up to the door of their apartment (it was in a house on Voroshilov Street). The husband opens the door, and a small white dog runs away from the door to the room and hides under the bed. Everything would be fine, but only the husband and wife live alone, and they did not keep animals in the family. And there was no one under the bed where the runaway hid …
Or, for example, a person watching TV out of the corner of his eye notices a foreign object next to him. With direct glance, the object turns out to be a dog (in other cases - a cat or a person), which sometimes even reacts to the fact that it was discovered, sometimes enters into a dialogue. Then it all disappears instantly. Often such a characteristic detail is noted - the rest of the family members, who may even be in the next room, do not respond to the calls of an eyewitness of the poltergeist phenomenon - as if they do not hear it.

There are apartments where cats, dogs, birds or butterflies appear out of nowhere quite regularly. The moment of their appearance (and disappearance too) either the owners fail to see, or they have a feeling that these animals seem to pass through the wall. Despite the "strangeness" of their appearance, these animals can leave quite tangible marks on the body of people. So, a shaggy visitor who jumped off in the late evening and ran over the woman's body (New City, 11th block), not only woke her up with the jerk of the jump, but also left bruises that did not heal for a long time in places where his small paws stepped on her side.
The third category of cases is unreasonable mechanical movement or damage to objects. As a rule, these phenomena are perceived most calmly (perhaps because the anomalous background of the event is not immediately clear). The most typical cases here are when objects that were quite stable fall spontaneously, the angle of inclination of which to the plane of fall is 90 degrees or more. For example, there was such a situation - a woman was talking to her friend on the phone and suddenly heard a muffled scream on the other end of the line. It turned out that in front of her subscriber's eyes, a stool with children's pants lying on it jumped into the air and threw things on the floor.
In this category of cases, there is also the appearance of the same type of skin lesions, resembling bites or injections. In this case, damage to the skin by insects is completely excluded. It was noted that in the apartments of the victims, similar in shape and size, lesions can be found on the leaves of indoor plants. As a rule, such damage occurs in a dream, however, in one of such cases, the victim felt a rather strong pinch on the buttock. Since he was wearing his pajamas, the skin remained intact, but there were dark stains on the pajamas, as if the material had been burned. A characteristic feature of poltergeist injuries is itching and long wound healing. With a few exceptions, poltergeist phenomena of this type are safe for humans.
Sometimes such poltergeist visions cannot be perceived without a smile. For example, one of our subscribers once stayed overnight in her mother's apartment on the street. Leningrad. In the evening I lay down on the sofa to read, turned on the night light, but did not sleep. There was a chair next to the bed, trousers that had been taken off hung on the back. The girl's attention was attracted by a strange sound: "whack-whack, whack-whack …". For a long time she did not pay attention to him, and then she still looked up. A tiny shaggy peasant in some kind of clothes and sandals in the fashion of the 50s of the 20th century was sitting on a chair, and with one hand he unbuttoned and buttoned the lock on the hanging trousers. The girl reached for the switch, turned on the overhead light, and at the same moment the vision disappeared. As she told us later, she had not believed in anything like that until that moment. And then - how can you not believe it when I saw it with my own eyes.
However, such visions are not always safe. We do not yet understand everything about how our world works, what physical and psychological mechanisms take place in it. Therefore, some events force you to stay on your guard and not treat such visions with that serenity, as you sometimes would like.
