More recently, people believed that the Earth was flat, supported by whales and turtles. That the heavenly dome could collapse What can be said about a person's skull about his character, bad or Nordic … Science is moving forward, and the wildest and darkest theories of the past are refuted thanks to the efforts of modern scientists. However, even today, pundits cannot find an explanation for some of the mysteries of nature and the universe.

Believe it or check it out, the world is full of things that we still can't explain.

Today, when almost everything can be justified rationally, unexplained phenomena are often interpreted as cheating or something that would be better ignored. Alas, this is how the human brain works.

Thank God that love of truth, curiosity, coupled with a rebellious (and quarrelsome) character, make up the main features of scientists: it is just as unnatural for them to say “I don’t know and I don’t want to know” as it is for us to close our eyes to what we don’t understand …

Let's dive into the world of the unknown and the strange together to reflect on some of the mysteries of the universe. At least over 15 facts that we do not yet know how to explain.

Baltic Sea anomaly

Remember, once a couple of Swedish oceanographers saw something that looked like a UFO on the bottom of the Baltic Sea? It was a world sensation … All the TV channels in the world spoke only about this! However, in reality, everything was a little different. I bet some of you haven't even heard of the Baltic Sea anomalies and the mysterious things that happened to Swedish scientists who couldn't explain why their electronic instruments and satellite phones suddenly stopped working when the divers were directly over the object.

Oceanologist Steve Weiner made tests of samples taken from the "anomaly" and came to the conclusion that the UFO-like formation is not entirely geological in nature and arose from a material like metal that, it seems, could not have appeared in the natural environment.

The OceanX team, the same divers who discovered this find, returned to it several times to properly investigate it. They figured out that the object has right angles, walls with smooth surfaces; something that very much resembles passages, corridors and even stairs, as well as a second anomaly nearby, which has yet to be studied.

Arecibo's answer?

The Arecibo message is a radio signal that was sent on November 16, 1974 from the Arecibo Observatory (Puerto Rico). The message was compiled by Carl Sagan and his comrades in honor of the discovery of a powerful radio telescope. The language of the message was a universal mathematical binary code, in which the most important information about humanity was encrypted: what is DNA, the size of a person, data about humanity as a whole, about the solar system … All this was sent into space in the space of the globular star cluster M13, located at a distance of 25,000 light years. Since it would take 25,000 years to deliver the message, and the same amount for any response, Arecibo's message was more of a demonstration of the technical capabilities of humanity than a real attempt to contact galactic inhabitants.

Image
Image

But here's what's interesting: in 2001, an image appeared on the ground near the Chilbolton Observatory, one to one resembling the Arecibo message. True, there was still a slight difference in the diameter of the microscope, information about the solar system, data about humanity, DNA and some other things. As if this was the answer to our encryption with the story of alien beings about who they are. Well … the message at Chilbolton looks huge and very specific. And either this is a sign from above and the senders did not use the Russian Post to deliver the answer, or someone was not too lazy to joke on a grand scale of several hectares.

Crop Circles

When we talk about crop circles, we understand that the last time scientists were interested in them was about the same time when guys in bell bottoms, tight synthetic shirts, horn-rimmed glasses and even with sideburns filled the pages of fashion magazines …

Image
Image

It was during the era of "boogie nights" that mysterious circles began to appear in the fields. Of course, there have been many theories as to what was the source of this phenomenon. For example, local winds, not detectable magnetic fields from some lines of force … One theory even suggested that these patterns may be the result of vigorous sexual activity of local hedgehogs.

In the 1990s, two men admitted that they created these circles with a rope, a saw, a couple of planks, and a lot of free time in their arsenal.

Following this recognition, the people largely stopped wondering about crop circles, although the number of crop circles has increased since then. Some of them are so large and incredibly complex that even a group of well-equipped bums can't seem to get it done overnight without noise and dust.

There are also some notable changes in the structure of plants within these circles that are clearly outside the human diocese. These microscopic changes cannot exactly be explained by the violent activities of two idiots with saws and scythes.

Patterson's film about Bigfoot

Wait, wait … Hasn't everyone already forgotten about it? After all, it is clear that in 1967 the director Roger Patterson filmed a guy in a hominid costume, that is, a bigfoot, or sasquatch … Such a man-like ape costume could be bought at any local US store.

Image
Image

When the film first hit the screens, most viewers immediately thought it was a heinous fake by the director. But still … this documentary is still one of the best films about Bigfoot, especially after its analysis by Bill Moon.

This is a famous Hollywood special effects specialist who knows everything about how people look in costumes of animals and robots. So after Munnu was given access to the originals of the film, he greatly enlarged all the available frames with the creature. And he gave an assessment: whoever Patterson was shooting, it was not a man in a gorilla suit. Anatomical structure, body proportions and movements were extremely uncharacteristic for humans. And if so, then the owner of such an unusual body would be very difficult to move around in this "suit".

The kidnapping of Betty and Barney Hills

One of the first most documented cases of "alien abduction" of people was the case of Betty and Barney Hill. Betty, a social worker, and her husband, Barney, who worked at the post office, were driving home one day after a vacation in Niagara. It was on the night of September 19, 1961. Betty saw the bright light of a "shooting star" in the sky, which seemed to be some kind of searchlight following the Hill's car. Barney stopped the car for a closer look and said he saw humanoids inside a rotating pancake-shaped object about 40 feet long.

Image
Image

The next thing Betty and Barney Hills remember is a series of beeps and the fact that after some time they were 35 miles from where they left off.

Betty and Barney Hills reported the incident after they discovered unusual changes to the car and saw strange markings on their bodies. They went through a series of hypnosis to remember all the details of that night. The couple were interviewed separately, but their stories coincided in a strange way. Whether this was true, or whether it was a figment of imagination and mass insanity, we still do not know for sure.

The disappearance of the colony from Roanoke

In 1587, John White led 115 colonists to the New World, where they settled on Roanoke Island. John White himself had to return to England for help after a colonist was killed by a native in the area.

Image
Image

When John finally returned to Roanoke, he found nothing … There were no signs of attack, struggle or battle. The residents of Roanoke, among them the daughter and granddaughter of John White, and the first English child born in America, Virginia Dare, seemed to disappear without a trace.

Before his trip to England, John instructed the colonists to carve the Maltese cross in the trees if they suddenly had to urgently leave the colony. However, neither John White nor the English accompanying him saw the crosses, but they read the word "Croatoan", carved on one of the wooden posts.

There are theories that the settlers were abducted by aliens, but later other colonists and explorers claimed to have seen natives with blond hair and blue eyes who spoke perfect English … And the Croatoan inscription on the wooden pillars apparently meant, “Come on, John White, with our colony to go far, and we will live with a friendly tribe of Croatoan Indians."

Belmes faces

In 1971, a certain Maria noticed a stain on the floor, which grew over time and suddenly turned into a face. She asked her husband and son to wipe the stain and redo the floors just in case. However, shortly afterwards, the face appeared again. Soon, rumors that ghosts lived in the house of Maria-Gomez Komar in the Spanish village of Belmes spread throughout the area.

Image

Scientists came to the house and decided to excavate the kitchen. Under it, they found burials, which were moved to another place. After scientists replaced the gender, the situation worsened: instead of one face, several appeared. Faces appeared like painted pictures. Maria claimed that they even move across the kitchen floor.

So far, there is no explanation as to what these images were and how they appeared in the house. Of course, we can assume that Maria's Spanish concoction was so tasty that the smells of her pies brought the long-dead into our world … You can joke endlessly, but one thing is for sure: faces were there as long as Maria was alive. After her death in 2004, they began to appear in the house where Maria-Gomez Komara was born.

UFO battle in Los Angeles

In 1942, something was flying in the skies over Los Angeles, and 70 years later, we are still speculating about what it could be.

The United States has not recovered from the attack on Pearl Harbor. The troops were on high alert and suddenly began firing at something in the sky … but what? Airship? Japanese plane? A secret airship?

Image
Image

Be that as it may, something was fired from 1,500 shells and remained alive and well before disappearing. The shooting awakened the entire city and witnesses reported seeing white lights and a spaceship in the sky. The press immediately denounced this as mass hysteria over what could have been conventional military exercises.

The government issued a statement that the significance of the incident was greatly exaggerated due to the "nervous shock of the American population in connection with the war." The United States Coast Guard claimed that they launched a weather balloon into the sky at 1:00 a.m., which allegedly triggered the shooting. In 1983, the US Air Force History Office, in a long report, where there are too many contradictions, concluded that weather balloons can indeed trigger an alarm, and people have already imagined everything else … True, it remains unclear how it happened that no one found the wreckage of the meteorological probe.

Abduction of Travis Walton

On November 5, 1975, seven lumberjacks working at the Apache Sitgreaves National Reserve were returning home through the forest after a long day of work and saw what looked like a crashed plane in the thicket. Curious, their chief, Mike Rogers, drove deeper into the forest to see what happened there. What the guys saw in the woods was far from a plane crash or the aftermath of a forest fire. It was a huge ship hovering in the air near the treetops. While most of the men remained in fear beside the truck, one of the workers, Travis Walton, decided to boldly move forward.

What happened next was that his comrades saw a beam of light from the ship, which seemed to paralyze Travis before he could shoot him 10 feet away. The men went back to the truck in panic, and when they came to their senses and went out to try to find Travis, he was nowhere to be found. He was away for five days before he was on the highway and was able to reach his family from a nearby gas station. Later, Travis recalled that he woke up on a table, and fantastic, big-eyed creatures bent over him and silently studied him as a representative of the human race.

Despite the skeptics, Travis Walton still insists that on November 5, 1975, he was taken on an unidentified flying ship and investigated by aliens.

If you think only humans get it from aliens, you are wrong. Several decades ago, in the 1960s and 70s, there was an incredible increase in livestock deaths both in the United States and around the world.

As a rule, the cases looked like this: farmers discovered that one of the animals (usually a cow) was missing, and found his mutilated corpse much later. We do not know who or what crippled livestock, but the reproductive organs of animals, lips, eyes and ears were of particular interest.

The finders were puzzled by the lack of blood at the site of the discovery of the corpse or by the strange arrangement of almost surgical cuts on the animal's body. There were no prints or marks around.

At one point, there were more than 130 cases of cows in Colorado, so the FBI had to investigate them, but even federal agents could not find an explanation why these cows suddenly became the object of such intrusive attention …

Spontaneous combustion

In 1951, 67-year-old Mary Reaser was found dead in her apartment by a courier who tried to hand her a telegram. The clerk could not force Mary to open the door and asked the neighbor how to get into the apartment.

When the apartment was opened, a neighbor and people nearby noted that the door handle was warm to the touch, and in the apartment itself it was warm, despite the open windows. Nothing in the apartment seemed strange, except for one in one corner: a pile of ash and a woman's left leg. Apparently this is all that remains of Mary Reaser.

Image
Image

The visitors did not find any signs of burglary, theft or robbery. The experts investigating the case said that turning a person into a heap of ash is possible only at a burning temperature of 3000 degrees for several hours. But how can a fire burn in an apartment without affecting the rest of it?

The investigation did not advance further than guesswork, the police had to be content with a "forgotten cigarette" as the cause of the fire, considering it the most unlucky Lucky Strike in history.

Literary ghost

Literary slaves or ghosts are those who write for someone else. But in the case of Pearl Curran and Patience Worth, it was a little different. Pearl acted as the "typewriter" for Patience.

Image
Image

Miss Worth's ghost appeared in 1913 when Pearl and a friend were experimenting with a seance board. At first, Pearl did not succeed, and the players put the board down when they unexpectedly received a message that said literally the following:

“Many years ago I lived and came back to this world. My name is Patience Worth. Wait! I will talk to you! As long as you live, I will live. I will make my bread - your bread. Let's have fun - work time is over!"

Pearl agreed to the fun, which lasted nearly 24 years. During this time, Pearl Curran recorded over 3 million words for Worth in total. True, there was one nuance: the stories and poems were in English of the 17th century.

It was hard to imagine that Pearl Curran, who dropped out of school at the age of 14 and had no literary experience, could write all this, and even in the language of Shakespeare. But Patience Worth, a native of Dorsetshire, born in 1650, may well have written a novel in Old English, A Sorrowful Story, which received rave reviews in the New York Times.

Writing stopped exactly after Pearl Curran's death in 1937. And this date was predicted by Miss Worth. Let's hope Patience paid Pearl a good deal for her work, and the fees were not ghostly, but quite impressive.

The mystery of flight number 19

The Bermuda Triangle is well known for absorbing planes and ships that hit it, and no one was ever able to get out of it. Although some experts believe the strange phenomena in the Devil's Triangle are caused by "electronic fog" or "magnetic flux", there is still no reliable explanation of what happened to Flight 19 on December 5, 1945.

Image
Image

This was when five US bombers flew out of Florida and disappeared without a trace in the triangle. Approximately an hour after the start of the exercise, Flight 19 recorded a double compass failure and lost its course. Several attempts were made by pilots and controllers to get Flight 19 back on course, but in the end the control room had no idea where the planes had gone. Radio communications were lost at 18:20.

A search operation was organized, but no traces, human bodies or aircraft wreckage were found. Moreover, the Bermuda Triangle decided to joke again - and captured one of the search and rescue aircraft during the operation …

Piri Reis Map

The map of Haji Muhiddin Piri ibn Haji Mehmed, or Piri Reis, was found in 1929 when a palace in Istanbul was being converted into a national museum.

In fact, this is the only surviving part of a large world map, long lost. It is said by many to be the oldest map of the Americas. And supposedly it is a copy of the map that Christopher Columbus used in 1498.

Image
Image

At the same time, the Piri Reis map is very detailed and accurate. What makes it even more incredible is the fact that it depicts the coastline under the ice of Antarctica, and this is 300 years before the moment when Antarctica was "discovered". It is known that the last time when Queen Maud Land could be ice-free dates back to 4000 BC. Such a coincidence is incredible! Other unusual facts about the map prove that its creator knew the exact circumference of the Earth and that the map shows the Earth from space …

The mystery of the Dyatlov pass

In 1959, something went wrong in the mountains of the Northern Urals, and a catastrophe occurred, which caused the death of 9 Soviet skiers. The facts surrounding their death were classified as "Top Secret", and no one had the right to be in the territory where the incident occurred for another three years.

Image
Image

The skiers were students of the ski expedition led by Igor Dyatlov. When they didn't return, their families became worried. The search operation began. Dyatlov's camp was discovered on February 26. The tent in which the group lived was torn apart from the inside, shoes and personal belongings were found there. The bodies of people were found in the vicinity, with almost no clothes on. The victims all had some kind of trauma: broken ribs, skulls, one victim even had no tongue.

However, there were no external injuries that could be sustained as a result of, for example, a car accident. Rescuers found traces of high radiation radiation on their clothes, and five bodies had a kind of "tan" orange color.

Tourists who were nearby reported seeing strange balloons flying in the immediate vicinity of the Dyatlov camp site. What happened to the skiers that night is still a complete mystery.
