In the tradition of the Slavs, fortune-telling is a certain ritual that is aimed at establishing contact with the other world. In order to find out our future, our ancestors said that it is necessary to look more closely at the signs that nature sends, and be able to guess them correctly. In addition, since ancient times, fortune tellers have existed around the world who could see human destinies and possessed certain secret knowledge.
But in ancient times, as a rule, almost everyone was guessing. Particular attention was paid to fortune-telling on popularly favorite holidays - Christmas, Epiphany. However, fortune-telling on New Year's Eve, when the connection with the other world was especially strong, was considered the most accurate and correct.
The girls were mainly interested in questions related to their personal life, in particular, with the choice of a husband. The girls wanted to know if they would get married in the new year or would have to wait until next year.
Traditionally, it was served on a loaf for the New Year. The girls got together and baked their own loaf each, marking it with a bright thread.
