A strange place. America is famous for its amazing places. There you will find beautiful skyscrapers and wonderful landscapes. But now this is not the issue. In addition to the wonders of civilization, here you can see natural wonders, for example, the Devil's Hole.
This anomalous area is located near the Delaware River in Pennsylvania. It is a frightening mountainous zone that houses a hole to nowhere. Nobody knows how deep it is. Many believe that this hole leads into the Devil himself to Hell. The rocks that surround the hole have their own voice. For many, this sound inspires superstitious horror, because from time to time, for no reason, they make ringing sounds in a fairly wide range of volume and timbre. Visitors to the Devil's Hole experience uncontrollable fear, even if there is complete silence. This fear arises in people who do not even know the legends about this place. The strangeness lies in the fact that this is the only place on earth where such phenomena occur.
Maybe something similar happens with the famous "ringing rocks". At one time, scientists became interested in the Devil's Hole, who honestly tried to solve this riddle of Mother Nature. But they could not come to the correct opinion. The researchers studied the internal and external structure of the rocks, their size and shape, but they did not reveal anything there. “Musical abilities”, they believe, are equally possessed in this devilish place by both individual small cobblestones and huge blocks of indefinite shape, even weighing up to several tons.
Scientists have tested the experimental assumption that only dense fine-grained homogeneous rocks such as quartzite, rhyolite or basalt ring. It is from such rocks that those rocks are composed, but this opinion, unfortunately, was not confirmed. And so far no one has put forward any other versions. The researchers could not explain the origin of the bright reddish-brown color on the tops of the "ringing rocks", which sharply contrast with the neighboring, ordinary mountains. They seem to consist of the very same lithological material.
Strange Hole Tales
Legends say that this is a window to the underworld, in other words, to the underworld itself. This is the Hole through which the Evil Spirit visits people from time to time when it plans to create another dirty trick on Earth. True, for such an important person as the Devil, the word "hole" sounds a little disrespectful. Probably, in this case, the name of the Devil's Gate would be more suitable.
Geologists believe that this mysterious sinkhole, as they say, to the "center of the Earth" is an ordinary gap that arose on a fault in the earth's crust at the place where two tectonic plates were far from each other. The dimensions of this slit-hole on the scale of the entire Planet are not very large - only 9 x 12 meters. But its vertical is really impressive. At a depth of about 120 meters, a small crevice is completely filled with groundwater, which formed a small underground lake in this place. Moreover, the depth of this lake has not yet been measured. No one knows where it leads.
