A resident of the Brazilian city of Fortaleza suffers from a rare skin condition, due to which she has to constantly use sunscreen and be in the dark. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
Karine de Souza, 29, was diagnosed with xeroderma pigmentosa when she was three years old. It is a severe hereditary disease characterized by increased sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet radiation.
Every time her skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays, she runs the risk of developing cancer. Because of this, a woman is smeared with 100 units of sunscreen every two hours all her life, even when she is at home with the curtains drawn in the dark. She only goes outside to visit the doctor in the evenings or on rainy days.
The Brazilian has undergone 130 surgeries to remove sun-damaged skin. She had her upper lip and part of her nose removed.
Strangers often ask De Souza tactless questions. Many of them try to stay away from her or insult her. Despite her serious illness, the woman tries to maintain a positive attitude and encourages others to do so.
De Souza is most supported by her husband Edmilson. They met three years ago on social networks, the man was captivated by the life story of the Brazilian woman and her inner strength.
