One of the places that at all times causes fear and serves as the source of stories of strange events is the cemetery. From the very beginning of civilization, as soon as isolated burial places appeared, special importance was attached to them.

It was believed that in such places the world of spirits draws closer to the world of the living, it was here that the ghosts of those who did not rest after death, died under monstrous circumstances, or did not perform any important work during their lifetime could wander. Some cemeteries remain the quiet resting place of the dead, while others give rise to an incredible amount of stories of the paranormal.

Highgate cemetery

London Cemetery at Highgate offers some of the finest examples of funerary architecture in England. Opened in 1839 by a private company hoping to profit from it, it soon became the burial place of the richest, most influential and famous. By the mid-20th century, the idea of a profitable cemetery had become impossible, and the Highgate Cemetery was virtually unattended.

Nature gradually captured him. You can imagine how beautiful a ghost wandering through an overgrown cemetery would look, but in Highgate another problem arose. According to rumors, a vampire has appeared here. In the 1970s, stories emerged of a "flying man" in Victorian clothing and a top hat, seen hovering over a cemetery. This attracted the local press and the hunt for the vampire began. More and more curious people came to the once abandoned and forgotten cemetery.

People said that some of them were hypnotized by a strange figure with glowing red eyes. The vampire hysteria didn't last long. These days, reports of a vampire are much less common, but it is worth taking a closer look if you find yourself in this cemetery.

Bachelor's Grove Cemetery

»Located close to the densely populated areas of Chicago, this cemetery is considered one of the richest in ghosts in America. There are over a hundred reports of various paranormal events that have taken place here.

Opened at the beginning of the 19th century, it gets its name from a family who once lived in the area. The first burial on it was made in 1844, and the last in 1965. By that time, the cemetery had become a popular meeting place for lovers and a victim of numerous vandals.

Gradually, it acquired the reputation of being inhabited by ghosts. Mysterious lights, various spirits and even ghostly cars began to be seen here. The cemetery gained particular popularity in 1991, when a photograph was taken, which is called the "Madonna of Bachelor's Grove." Having heard about the glory of this cemetery, the so-called American Society for the Study of Ghosts decided to visit it.

Based on unusual readings from their equipment, the research team took photographs. Invisible to the human eye appeared in the photographs and took the form of a female figure sitting on a gravestone in a pose similar to that taken during prayer. This photograph is considered one of the most significant pieces of evidence for the existence of the paranormal.
