The understanding of God as a creator is wrong, say academics, who believe that the unfortunate mistake of translating the Bible has been reaped by people for thousands of years.

The author of the study, Professor Ellen Van Wold, an Old Testament scholar, argues that the words "first God created the heavens and the earth" is not a correct translation from the Hebrew.

She assures that she was able to carry out a textual analysis, which shows that the authors of the Bible never even tried to assume that supposedly God created the world. Allegedly, the Earth already existed, and the Creator only populated it with people and animals.

Van Wold, 54, who defended her thesis on the topic at Radbaud University in the Netherlands, said she had reanalyzed the original Hebrew text and put it in the context of the Bible as a whole.

She stated that the Hebrew verb bara, which is used in the first sentence of the Genesis book, does not mean to create, but to spatially separate.

Henceforth, the first sentence is to be understood as "first God separated Heaven from Earth."

A university spokesman noted that the new interpretation of the Covenant is a complete shake-up of the history of religion. Now, according to scientists, the usual image of God the Creator may collapse.
