Krutoyar Island is located in the Gulf of Finland (in the Vyborg Bay). The Finnish name is Essaari. It is part of the Pitkäpaasi archipelago, and administratively belongs to the Vyborg district of the Leningrad region. It is 1300 meters long and up to 700 meters wide. The area of the Krutoyar Island is about one square kilometer.
On the island you can find the remains of a Finnish village called Kotisaari. It consisted of ten houses and was abandoned in the 40s. Also of interest is the discovered Neolithic (presumably) labyrinth, which was discovered back in 1913 by the Finnish archaeologist Arne Thalgren.
The stone labyrinth on Krutoyar Island measures 9.5 by 7.5 meters. It is a path made of stones.
The exact date of its construction is unknown, and the purpose of such labyrinths is also not known for certain.
One thing is certain - it was a cult place for our ancestors.
