The US Central Intelligence Agency has removed the classification and published documents from the 1940-1950s on unidentified flying objects. An archive of 1978 investigations has been released on the CIA's official website. A CIA spokesman said that some of the UFO documents were published under the UFO Freedom of Information Act.

“We decided to highlight several documents that might seem interesting to both skeptics and believers in extraterrestrial intelligence. Documents in the spirit of the X-Files, in our opinion, could interest even Agent Fox Mulder, who tried to convince others of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations. The documents would also be of interest to his skeptic partner, agent Dana Scully, for a scientific explanation of UFOs,”he said.

The declassified materials are mainly UFO drawings and reports from CIA officers who were involved in checking UFO reports. According to intelligence documents, the flying saucers are "real, not an illusion or fiction." In one of the reports, the author describes UFOs, noting that "objects are disk-shaped and correspond to the size of vehicles made by humans" and only "some cases are explained by natural phenomena." However, the documents do not contain reliable facts about alien activity.

At the same time, foreign media reported that one of the ex-CIA officers said that although the declassified UFO documents are real, they were edited before publication and some details were removed.
