Scientists from the Langone Medical Center at New York University found that after death, a person is aware of what is happening around him for some time.
Many people who have experienced clinical death report unusual feelings during this time period. So, some describe their condition as a dark corridor, and some argue that they saw themselves as if from the outside.
Previously, scientists were skeptical about this information, considering such experiences as hallucinations or illusions that arise in patients either before their heart has stopped or after its work has been successfully restored. However, Dr. Sam Parnia of New York University's Langone Medical Center said that life after death does exist.
The specialist, together with his team, conducted a survey among US and European residents who survived clinical death. As it turned out, many of them realized what was happening around them after their heart stopped beating. In particular, many respondents noted that they had heard and seen how doctors work and what they said.
Moreover, people mentioned things that they simply could not know, reports the Independent.
“Technically, you die the moment your heart stops. As soon as this happens, the blood no longer circulates in the brain, which means that its work stops almost instantly,”explains Dr. Parnia.
At the same time, as the expert emphasizes, there is a certain "time of death" - the period when the heart stops beating, and blood still enters the brain. In this interval, which lasts for several minutes, the person still actually lives - he can see, hear and understand what is happening to him. Moreover, the patient may even be aware that he is on the path to death.
