The authorities of the Indian capital New Delhi intend to solve the problem of air pollution with artificial rain. The technology consists in the dispersion of special substances that cause precipitation in clouds, and has not been previously used. Prashant Gargava, secretary of the Central Department for Pollution Control, told RIA Novosti about this.

According to an Indian official, the country's government is in talks on the topic with India's Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). IIT professor Sachchida Nand Tripathi assessed the situation and said artificial rain could be triggered after November 10 when favorable weather conditions, including clouds and wind, are present.

On Monday, November 5, the concentration of harmful microparticles PM 2.5 in the air of New Delhi was more than 25 times higher than the WHO safe average daily rate for humans, reaching 644 microns.

Experts attribute the sharp jump in pollution levels to the actions of farmers who burn grass after harvest in the fall. In addition, on November 7, the capital of India will host the Diwali festival of lights, during which massive firecrackers and fireworks are blown up. According to WHO statistics, about a million people die from Indian smog every year.
