The temple is located on Slavyanskaya Square in the north-east of Moscow. The Church of All Saints became famous thanks to the evil spirit that settled in it in 1666.

The parishioners began to feel the presence of otherworldly forces on themselves. Something invisible pushed or threw the monks from their beds, spending nights in the monastery, bells rang by themselves, and sometimes a voice was heard from nowhere, defiling the holy place with obscene language. "Poltergeist" or "devil" was the name of the unclean spirit who harassed the inhabitants of the almshouse with his pranks.

The decision to exorcise the demon by the monks' forces only angered him and the activity of demonic pranks became unbearable. Moreover, the otherworldly entity began to expose the clergy in various iniquities and to make fun of their unsuccessful attempts at exorcism. It was possible to get rid of the unclean spirit only with the timely intervention of Hieromonk Hilarion, summoned from the Florishchevo Hermitage, who spent seven weeks with two monks there in prayers.

The saying "to hell on Kulichki", meaning a long distance to the target, is associated with these events. The church was on the outskirts of the area called "Kulishki". And directly "kulichki" and "kulizhki" in the old days were called perilous swamps, where, according to popular beliefs, evil spirits settled. Initially, the expression sounded like "to hell with Kulishki", but ultimately the two phrases crossed together.

The negativity associated with the Church of All Saints did not stop in the 20th century. In 1930, the temple was closed, but instead of the planned demolition, it was adapted to the needs of the state security agencies. The nature of the use of the premises for a long time remained unclear, but in 1991 the building was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church and the clergy found the remains of those shot in the basement.

Despite the fact that the scriptures say about the expulsion of the demon into the underworld, there is an opinion that the complete destruction of such a strong creature is beyond the power of people, and the evil spirits simply doze within the walls of the church, waiting in the wings.
