Chapter seven. Pink and white terraces of New Zealand

In addition to two large, as well as more than seven hundred small islands. In its northern part, on Lake Rotomahana, there were geysers of interest to us, also called "Pink and White Terraces".
According to official science, the Pink and White Terraces are unique geological formations that are quartz baths. They were formed as a result of the fact that geothermal water, containing a large amount of siliceous agglomerate, constantly flowed from two geysers located on the shores of Lake Rotomahana and, cascading down the hillside, left thick deposits of pink and white quartz. From these deposits, terraces with reservoirs were formed, which were considered a real miracle of nature and even the "eighth wonder of the world". White terraces "Te Tarata" (translated from the Maori language "tattooed stone") covered an area of three hectares and were 30 meters high. The pink terraces - "the fountain of the cloudy sky" were smaller and filled to the brim with warm water where people could take a bath.
Once a major Victorian tourist attraction, the terraces were officially destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 1886.
