Recently, the Kologrivsky district, lost in the Kostroma forests, bordering the Vologda region, has undergone a real pilgrimage of ufologists and parapsychologists. A shaggy monster appeared here, which the locals call a woodman, the believers consider it a demonic obsession, and the visiting ufological public calls it a yeti or Bigfoot.

The first evidence that “hairy werewolves” appeared in the endless forests in the upper reaches of the Unzha River began to appear at the end of the 19th century. For a while, all these stories were attributed to religious prejudice. Then there was the revolution, collectivization, war, and the people had no time for monsters.

The Kologriva phenomenon was remembered again a quarter of a century ago, when, in the post-perestroika wave, a keen interest in all kinds of occultism arose among the population, and psychiatric clinics suffered from an influx of patients who claimed that they were expecting a child from alien aliens. Over time, the boom passed, rumors about alien pregnancies somehow dispelled by themselves, but evidence of meetings on Unzha with incomprehensible creatures did not stop. On the contrary, there are already many more of them.

Almost every second of the local hunters and fishermen, who made their way to the remote tributaries of the Unzha, now declares that they have seen a yeti with their own eyes. It is curious that the stories of many witnesses coincide almost to the details. “Walking through the forest, I felt an icy piercing gaze on my back. Turned around slowly. Under a pine tree (birch, aspen, fir-tree), about thirty or forty meters from me, a hairy giant stood and looked without blinking. It doesn't look like a bear or a monkey, except for thick hair."

Based on these descriptions, the mysterious creature is not aggressive. It just stands and looks. But many people feel an unaccountable fear: "as if they looked into the eyes of the devil." And the most impressionable faint. As if by agreement (which is completely out of the question), the witnesses paint an almost identical portrait of the forest stranger. About 3 m in height. Stands straight, not stooping. Huge muscles, broad shoulders, almost no neck. The muzzle is hairy, a huge mouth, a small flattened nose, sullen eyes.

The Kostroma Yeti is most likely not alone. His "close relatives" have been repeatedly spotted in the Arkhangelsk and Vologda regions. But in contrast to the peace-loving Kostroma colleagues, the Arkhangelsk "woolly individuals" have a more aggressive disposition. Most of the Yeti encounters take place in August and September, which is understandable. It is during these months that the forests are most often visited by hunters, mushroom pickers and berry pickers. The latter even had a special sign: if you saw a yeti, you can turn around and go home with an empty basket. There will be no cranberry-lingonberry gift that day anyway.

So far, all evidence of the existence of a three-meter forestry is purely descriptive, and therefore rather subjective. No real or scientific evidence of the yeti living in the Kologriv forests, including skins, casts of giant footprints, scraps of wool, etc., has yet been found. It is not surprising that there are many skeptics in Kologriv itself. The editor of the local newspaper Elena Filippova, although she publishes eyewitness accounts, honestly says that she does not believe in the existence of the Yeti. State Inspector of Fish Protection V. Komissarov takes an even more categorical position: “I think that all these stories about a hairy man are complete nonsense. It's just that you need to drink less in the forest and on the river …"

On the other hand, there are many respected and famous people in the area among those who have seen the shaggy stranger. Including the former chairman of the district executive committee Pavel Kudelnikov and a local judge. And there is simply no point in suspecting these people of a hoax or outright lies. There can be only two explanations for what is happening. Or we observe the phenomenon of mass self-hypnosis, when some people become hostages of their own impressionability (psychologists, for example, are well aware of this phenomenon). Or in the dense Kostroma forests, strange things really happen.

The famous Kostroma ufologist V. Dyachenko recently put forward a version that supposedly explains why the local Yeti does not leave any material traces: "Bigfoot" is not an inhabitant of the Earth. It is also unlikely that he is a representative of an alien civilization in any form. Most likely, it comes to us from a parallel world. And soon he returns there. Perhaps these movements are unexpected for the creature itself, since, as scientists say, the so-called local dematerialization occurs. The mechanism of this phenomenon is not yet precisely known, but the lack of a scientific foundation does not bother the supporters of the existence of the Kologriv Yeti. Moreover, some have already adapted to derive quite earthly benefits from the "otherworldly" forestry.

Another Kostroma ufologist D. Borisov once published an article in which he claimed that he was the first to be lucky enough to photograph a mysterious creature. Then, however, it turned out that there was nothing on the tape. At all. But this did not prevent D. Borisov from publishing a new article. In it, the author argued that the film was illuminated by mysterious forces from the other world, and this, they say, is the best confirmation that the yeti really exists.

Of course, if such a creature really exists, then somehow it is necessary to understand this. Most of the meetings with the forester take place on the very border of the Kostroma and Vologda lands. Therefore, the dwelling of a mythical monster may well be in the Vologda region. But maybe there is a whole tribe of them? After all, similar monsters have been repeatedly seen in the Kargopol region - this is already the Arkhangelsk region. Moreover, they were seen at the northern end of Lake Vozhe, part of which is also located in the Vologda region. By the way, the Vologda hunters in remote corners near Semigorodnyaya, Beketovskaya, Vytegra allegedly also saw strange forest creatures. All that remains is to wait for new discoveries.
