The hole in the ground near the village of Ubinskaya, Seversky District was discovered by the traveler Yevgeny Gomonov. It turned out to be an ancient abandoned adit.
- There are a lot of such in the district, - says Evgeny, - having studied the archives, I found out that cinnabar was mined in them. According to some reports, it was the adit that we stumbled upon that was of a reconnaissance nature. By the end of the 20th century, all the local mine workings were abandoned, including this one.
The entrance to the mine, judging by the photo, is a vertical hole dug by someone (probably, the entrance was previously filled up, - author's note).
“The adit cavity is a straight corridor of approximately circular cross-section, about two and a half meters in diameter,” adds Evgeny Gomonov. - The length of the mine is currently just over 100 meters. The wooden fasteners supporting the vault had long ago rotted and collapsed, so I did not climb inside. There is a stream running along the bottom of the mine, there are traces of raccoons. The adit ends with a landslide, it is possible that it is of artificial origin.
By the way, many abandoned adits are scattered across the Krasnodar Territory: for example, in Abinsky, Belorechensky, Apsheronsky districts. They are of no archaeological value, but they are extremely dangerous. Rumor has it that people who are interested in them do not live long: they disappear or go crazy.
“I don’t know about going crazy, but you can easily get crippled in such places,” warns the head of the Mezmay hunting farm Sergey Komarov. - The former adits are often covered with dry foliage or covered with sod, so those who like to wander through the forest should be extremely careful.
According to one of the versions, the Templars were engaged in the development of adits on the territory of the Kuban. Yes, yes, in the 14th century, after alchemy in Europe was anathema, some scientists went in search of the philosopher's stone in the Black Sea mountains. The development took place in the area of Mount Papay (located on the territory of the Seversky and Abinsky regions).
This place was called the Black Aul, because under the influence of the mercury that was mined here, the inhabitants had black rotten teeth, bad breath, unquenchable thirst and shaking hands. These people were considered damned, and the locals hated the Templars. And once, having caught them in a narrow gorge, they covered them with stones.

The alchemists never returned from the accursed adits, which later also fell asleep. Both our and foreign scientists have repeatedly tried to study interesting objects. They say that during the expeditions someone even disappeared without a trace. But the last word about the adits was never said: the British Geographical Society, which investigated the problem in the 90s of the last century, classified the data.
