Nobody knew how old she was, maybe three or four years old, maybe more. The girl had oddities: one hand is very large, one eye is much larger than the other. The girl could not speak, but only made the sounds that the vant ut utters. The girl was taken to the village and everyone was sure that she was the daughter of that missing girl and Vent Uta.

… But Abkhazians are enterprising people. And the men decided to teach Zana to work. She quickly took up labor lessons and soon began to endure heavy things with the men.
