The undoubted (albeit indirect) influence on the ideology of the Third Reich was exerted at one time by the famous English magician and Satanist Aleister Crowley.
Edward Alexander (Aleister) Crowley was born on October 12, 1875 in Leamington (Workshire) into the family of a brewer and preacher from the religious sect "Plymouth Brothers". From childhood before my eyes - the ascetic frenzy of the father, insane sermons, pacification of the flesh. Puritan suppression of all bodily impulses was the main motive for upbringing. Subsequently, it will turn out to be its opposite - Crowley will become one of the founders of the "sexual revolution".
At Cambridge University, Crowley encountered a small group of aesthetes and occultists inspired by decadence. Here the rich, talented and marked by refined beauty, the young man became a universal idol. Despite his marriage to Rose Kelly, he did not limit the range and gender of his countless lovers. At the same time, he traveled a lot, conquered the highest peaks of the world with climbers, visited Egypt, Russia, Scandinavia.
In 1896, in Stockholm, Crowley experienced his first "enlightenment" experience. He suddenly realized that he was called to become the greatest of magicians. Two years later, he entered the occult society, which established him on this path, armed with "secret knowledge." This society was called "The Order of the Golden Dawn" ("Golden Dawn in the Outer").
In the Order, Crowley learned about initiation by means of drugs, about special magical rituals and practices, about the teachings of Kabbalah, Rosicrucianism, yoga, alchemy and operational magic.
At his Boleskin estate on the shores of Loch Ness, Crowley is conducting experiments to summon a "guardian angel."
In 1904, while visiting Cairo, Crowley received a special revelation. The terrible "pre-humanoid essence" - "the demon Aiwass" - chose him to be the bearer of new knowledge and herald of the new century, "the Horus zone". Crowley realized himself as "Beast 666", which is described in the Apocalypse.
From that moment on, Aleister Crowley devoted his life to spreading his teachings. The central work created within the framework of this teaching is the famous "Book of Laws" dictated by the demon Aiwass. The first of the Crowley-Aiwass laws is "Do what you want, this will be your only law."

Becoming the Beast, Crowley does not change his habits too much, outwardly everything remains the same: occult practices, rampant sexual orgies, satirical literary opuses, drugs, poetry, mountaineering. But from now on, all this is illuminated with a special alarming light, imbued with a special meaning, because the Beast 666 is not just a man.
Crowley leaves the Order of the Golden Dawn (according to another version, he is expelled from there) and becomes the head of the Silver Star occult organization, to which, according to Crowley himself, belonged to the "invisible brothers" ("secret masters"), who govern human history.
Aleister Crowley describes the "secret masters" as follows:
“I don't even know their earthly names, I know them only by some secret mottos. I saw very few of them in their physical form, rare meetings took place in the astral plane, and it was they who appointed them. They met with me physically at places and at hours predetermined. I believe that these are human beings living on Earth, but they have terrible and inhuman capabilities … I felt that I was communicating with terrible power; I can compare my experience with the feeling of a person who was next to lightning during a terrible thunderstorm.
I received almost all the second-order knowledge in various ways: by clairvoyance, astral projection, table-turning thanks to the ring and the disk, and sometimes with a “direct voice”, physically audible. Or I drew knowledge from books that came to me for unknown reasons and disappeared just as mysteriously as soon as I finished rewriting them … “
In this description, one can see the “patron spirits” of shamanism, and the telepathic mahatmas of Helena Blavatsky, and the Tibetan Aryan Atlanteans by Karl Haushofer. Esotericists of the 20th century needed virtual "teachers", and Aleister Crowley was no exception in the general row.
When it comes to "managing human history," Crowley was more fortunate. The powerful of this world really listened to his words and judgments, for which Aleister Crowley was subsequently awarded the title of "magician of the XX century".
Crowley failed to send the Book of Laws to Lenin, Hitler and Churchill, and introduced Trotsky to it. His agents operated in a wide variety of countries and spheres: Captain John Fuller, Silver Star adept, occultist and chief British specialist in tank operations, worked among the conservatives; Martha Künzel, a violent National Socialist, cultivated Hitler and those around him; Walter Durangi, the only Western journalist favored by Stalin, operated in Moscow.
Crowley was at the center of a world conspiracy that he himself created, weaving the web of a new era. However, his defiantly "dark" teaching and terrible practices frightened off not only the profane, but also the occultists themselves. Gradually, Crowley was exiled from everywhere, and the Second World War and its horrors for a long time made the press forget about this strange character, whose name practically never left the pages under the heading "Scandals". He died on December 1, 1947 from bronchitis and heart failure.
The teachings of Aleister Crowley in the most general outline look like this.
Civilization develops in accordance with certain cycles, each of which determines the religious and cultural level of humanity. The cycle lasts approximately 2000 years, which coincides with the transition of one of the 12 constellations of the Zodiac to a new sector. Humanity today lives at the end of the "Osiris zone", which is characterized by the "archetype of a dying and resurrecting god." This "period" is characterized by patriarchal ethics and the concept of divinity as something abstract and moral. The law of this cycle requires a person to be ascetic and give up their own will.
But it all ends. The next cycle is approaching - the "zone of Horus", the son of Osiris. In the atom period there will be a different religion and a different culture based on a new ethics. Now "deity" will be inside the person, and not outside him; the kingdom of total freedom will come. Crowley considered himself a "prophet of a new period" who should notify mankind of the upcoming changes. In his letters to Moscow to Duranty, he puts forward the idea of his visit to "Stalinist Russia" in order to "receive the honors of the people who destroyed the temples of the old god and planted five-pointed stars of magic on their shrine - the Kremlin."
Between the two zones "there is a special period - the" storm of the equinoxes. " This is the era of the triumph of chaos, anarchy, revolutions, wars, catastrophes. These waves of terror are needed to wash away the remnants of the old order and make room for the new. According to Crowley's doctrine, the "storm of the equinoxes" is a positive moment that the servants of "Horus" should welcome and bring closer in every way. Therefore, Crowley himself supported all the "subversive" trends in politics - communism, Nazism, anarchism, separatism.
The following detail from Crowley's biography is interesting. In his treatise "Theoretical and Practical Magic" Master Therion (one of Aleister Crowley's names) emphasizes the "scientific" nature of magic operations: the sequence of events is determined by immutable laws, events can be accurately described and foreseen.
Here is how Crowley prepared for another initiation in 1898:
“The initiate must have at his disposal a room in which he will be hidden from prying eyes, where he will not be disturbed. In this room, he must leave room for the "templum". On the north side, there should be a window overlooking the terrace, in the corner of which a box should be built, similar to the box of the Master of the Freemasons. The worshiper should have a dress of white linen, a crown, a stick, an altar, incense, anointing oil, and a breastplate of native silver. All these items must be consecrated in accordance with the instructions gleaned from the Book of Abramelin. The terrace must be covered with specially consecrated fine sand.
for four months it is necessary to completely abstain from sexual intercourse, to live in solitude and in silence. Drinking and eating should be kept to a minimum. A person is obliged to practice most of the time the rituals and ceremonies prescribed by his mentor. He communicates with astral fluids. For the first two months, he experiences continuous ecstasy, avoiding any communication with the profane. At the end of this period, he performs a "great spell": then his guardian angel will appear to him in all its beauty. A sign will appear on the bib. Previously, the master must draw a magic circle that will protect him from fire when an entity appears. He will receive power from his angel …"
In 1945, a "templum" was discovered in the ruins of Berlin, exactly matching this description.
