The percentage of twins born varies from country to country. On average, the chance of having twins is 1 in 80. Candido Godoy, where children with the same appearance are born much more often, has long enjoyed the fame of the "city of twins" - this is what is written on the sign that welcomes all visitors. The city even has a special museum - the House of the Twins

One in five women who become pregnant in the city of Candido Godoy subsequently give birth to twins, often blonde-haired and blue-eyed, reports The Daily Telegraph. According to Camarasa, this is due to the visits of Mengele, who in the 1960s, under the guise of a doctor, provided medical care to local women.

The historian is convinced that in Candido-Godoy Mengele continued his experiments to increase the birth rate, which, according to the Nazis, were supposed to help the "Aryan race" take over the world. According to the researcher, Mengele first worked with livestock on farms in Argentina.

In Brazil, he began to visit Candido Godoy under the guise of a veterinarian and doctor, and soon after that the number of twins being born rose sharply, the historian points out. He believes that the city could serve as "a laboratory where Mengele was finally able to fulfill his dreams of creating a superrace of blonde-haired, blue-eyed Aryans."

However, some scientists familiar with the study of Jorge Camarasa doubt that it was Joseph Mengele who had a hand in the emergence of the "city of twins." The fact is that in almost every country today there are villages where the percentage of births of twins is abnormally high.

In China, it is the Bazhou village located in the Hunan province. Here, for several generations, almost all women give birth to only twins.

There are two such villages in India! For example, in little Kandallur today there are seventy pairs of twins! And every year more and more of them are born.

“You can't see double,” - every tourist who comes to the village hears this phrase. Indeed, the abundance of identical faces amazes foreigners. At the same time, according to Indian tradition, twins are dressed the same, and it can be extremely difficult to distinguish them. Particularly tight are school teachers.

According to local residents, even if a woman marries a man from another village, she is likely to have twins. The inhabitants of Kandallur themselves explain this phenomenon by the tricks of the god Rama, who had twin children.

In the south of India, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, there is another village of twins. Moreover, most of them are absolutely identical. There is even a family in Die, in which two pairs of completely identical twin girls were born, and this is already a downright unique phenomenon.

As recently reported by the ITAR-TASS agency, if it were not for the almost complete isolation of this village from the outside world and the absence of not only scientific institutes, but even food stores, one could assume that the local residents (like Josef Mengele in Brazil) spend a very successful experiments in human cloning.

However, the villagers who exist at the expense of subsistence farming do not even think about science, but, on the contrary, have themselves been the subject of research by scientists for many years. Umri is home to researchers from the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad, who perform DNA analyzes on residents. Scientists intend to find genes that could explain this phenomenon, as well as understand how they affect susceptibility to various diseases.

In the meantime, such a frequent birth of twins is explained by the high percentage of family marriages, which are highly encouraged in a closed village with a predominantly Muslim population.

But the inhabitants of the "genetic gold mine" - as they dubbed Umri in the Indian media - are clearly not inclined to write off the phenomenon with twins as incest, claiming that the waters of the large Indian rivers Ganges and Yamuna flowing in this area were gifted with an extraordinary ability of local women.

LAGUNA OF MIRACLES

In principle, there may be some truth in this, and perhaps not a small amount. In the Vietnamese province of

Dong Nai, there is a small village of Hunghiep, which today is home to more than fifty pairs of twins. That is, there is practically not a single house in the village in which brothers or twin sisters do not live.

According to the women of Hinghiep, it is easy for them to give birth to twins, they just need to wash themselves with water from a well, which is located in the courtyard of 79-year-old elder Bai Thyong. In any case, all parents of today's twin children did just that.

Bai Thuong dug a well in 1975, tasted the water, and it turned out to be so crystal clear and tasty that he began to treat his neighbors with it. And further in the village, twins began to be born, and when this happened several times in a row, the rumor about the miraculous water from the Bai Thyong well spread around the whole district.

For "living" water, women now come to the village not only from the surrounding area, but even from other parts of the country.

A similar situation exists in Peru. Here, at the entrance to the city of Chilka, located 60 km from the capital of Lima, there are three lakes. Locals call them the "Lagoon of Wonders". Water and mud from one of them treat skin diseases, rheumatism and arthritis. The second is the treatment for diseases of the eyes, nerves, joints and blood pressure. But the third, according to the locals, "programs" the twins. In Chilka, where 10 thousand people live, 100 couples after bathing in this lake gave birth to twins. Several dozen more women recovered from infertility with mud.

Peruvian scientists and doctors claim that the healing properties appeared in the lakes after aliens visited Chilka. They say that representatives of other civilizations collected some materials from lake beaches. And then they left behind substances that were absorbed into the lakes and subsequently showed medicinal properties.

"The land of twins" is written on a sign at the entrance to Igbo-Ora, a village in southwestern Nigeria. “There are no families here that do not have at least one pair of twins,” says village head Olayide Akinyemi, a 71-year-old father of 12 children. - My father had ten pairs of twins, I had three. But only one couple survived, a boy and a girl. The rest were born singly."

The abundance of twins in Igbo Ora amazes the medical profession. While the number of identical twins here is the same as in the whole world, there are significantly more fraternal twins in Africa. In Nigeria, the number of twin births is particularly high. From 1972 to 1982, there were 45-50 twins per 1,000 births. This is almost 4 times more than in Europe or the USA.

Many people think it's all about the local food. Yam roots, which are eaten in West Africa, contain phytoestrogen, which can stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs ready for fertilization at the same time. Warden Akinemi also states that yams must be eaten in order to have twins. “Nutrition affects the birth of twins,” he said.

Gynecologist Akin Odukogbe adheres to a different point of view: “The true cause of this phenomenon has not yet been solved by doctors. There are many real reasons, one of which is genetics. When the family already had twins, chances are high that this will be passed on from generation to generation.

In Nigeria, twins are believed to be a gift from higher powers that brings happiness. “The twins are surrounded by reverence, love and respect,” says the village head. "They are a good sign."
