Known as BrainNet, the remarkable achievement was made possible by the use of a combination of electroencephalograms (EEG), which record electrical impulses from brain activity, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which stimulates neurons with magnetic fields.
In a recent experiment, two test subjects-senders, or rather their brains, were connected to the same network and asked to play a game like Tetris. If the falling block had to be rotated, then they looked at the flashing LED on one side of the screen, if not, then they looked at the flashing diode on the other side of the screen. The diodes blinked with different frequencies, the reaction to them of the subjects was recorded using EEG.
The third connected person - the "receiver" - took these control options from the other two and used them to rotate blocks in the game.
Five different groups of participants showed an average level of accuracy of over 80%.
In the future, scientists hope to unite larger groups of people in the same way.
Ultimately, technology could lead to interconnected brain networks, much like the Borg, the fictional high-tech pseudo-race of cyborgs in the Star Trek universe.
By the way, the Borgs also solved problems with collective intelligence. If anyone remembers, any creatures they met were "greeted" with the phrase
“We are Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. Your biological and technological advances will be added to ours. Your culture will be tailored to serve us. Resistance is futile."
