There are many definitions to denote people who possess secret knowledge and unusual abilities: magician, sorcerer, shaman, sorcerer, wizard. All skills that people do not usually possess seem magical to us. But magic is different kind and evil, caused by the forces of light and with the assistance of the spirits of darkness. Therefore, the names for different wizards are different.
Wizards are generally associated with good magic. They are most often mentioned in fairy tales. This was the name of the magicians who served at the court of the king. Wizards acted as the main advisers to the rulers, and before that they traveled a lot, collecting knowledge and magical artifacts.
At the word "sorcerer" the image of a gray-haired old man with a stick appears. His magic has an unkind connotation. It is popularly believed that sorcerers make friends with evil spirits and are fed by her energy. They become sorcerers either by birth or voluntarily. It is believed that a boy born into a family in which only girls were born for three generations will certainly become a sorcerer. And a girl in a family where boys have always been born will become a witch. Sometimes they become a sorcerer under duress. For example, this happens to a person who is next to a dying sorcerer. A magician cannot leave this world until he transfers his knowledge to a successor. If suddenly he did not prepare such a successor in advance, then his role will be performed by anyone who is nearby at the sorcerer's hour of death.
Necromancers (necromages) are among the most cruel black magicians. They are sorcerers who died, but were not even accepted into hell, and therefore returned to earth again. As one who has been in the afterlife, a necromancer can revive the dead. All the magic of necromancers in one way or another is associated with death. A necromage can also heal from incurable diseases, but he does this very rarely and for such a price that few people dare to pay.
In Slavic culture, magicians were called magi, sorcerers. The Magi played a special role in the state and public life of the country. Magicians possessed knowledge of the medicinal properties of herbs and poisons, knew many signs, knew how to put people into a trance, thus curing them of diseases. Most often, the Magi helped ordinary people, but could, if necessary, send pestilence, damage, crop failure. Even after the adoption of Christianity in Russia, the influence of the Magi, especially in the outback, remained very strong.
Sorcerers are wizards who "create spells", create a darkness, conjure. To exercise their magic, sorcerers need to turn to the help of magical artifacts and various magical utensils.
Warlocks generally refer to all sorcerers as such. It was believed that they do not comb their hair, do not cut their nails, do not say prayers and only harm people. Another characteristic of warlocks is their passion for reading and collecting magic books. Perhaps this is where the name "warlock" came from.
Shamans are magicians who are still found today among the peoples of the Far North and in the tribes of backward countries. It is believed that shamans communicate with spirits by introducing themselves into a state of trance. For this, the shaman performs a ritual dance, inhaling the smell of herbs burning at the stake. The ceremony of communicating with spirits can last from several hours to several days.
