It is located in Central Asia - on the territory of Northern China and Southeastern Mongolia. Its length is 1.6 thousand km, and the temperature fluctuations are greatest in the world - in winter it drops below -40 degrees, and in summer it can exceed +45 degrees. And this inhospitable region is fraught with many secrets that have claimed more than one human life.
Desert worm
In fact, the Gobi is not a homogeneous space covered with sand, but a chain of regions differing in relief and landscapes. Therefore, for example, the northern Gobi does not at all resemble the Trans-Altai - the first is a grassy steppe, the second is a rocky real desert with rare bushes of vegetation. It is in the Trans-Altai part of the Gobi, in its most inaccessible and uninhabited places, according to legend, that the terrible worm Olgoi-Horhoy lives. He lives in the sand dunes, and he has an active life only in June-July, when the hottest days are. During the rest of the year, this creature sleeps in sandy burrows deep below the surface. The length of Olgoy-Horhoy is about half a meter and more, it is a thick red worm. The inhabitants of all nearby lands are afraid of him. There are legends that the worm can kill from a distance with poison,which shoots at the victim, or by exposure like electricity.
