In one of the paleontological journals, scientists published a description of the find, telling about the battles of ancient underwater monsters.

It turned out that about 70 million years ago, at the time of the end of the Cretaceous period, the most severe marine predator was the Mosasaurus. According to materials of paleontologists, the largest individuals reached 17 meters in length. In their fossilized remains of the stomach of one of them were found bones of fish, as well as other animals, including weaker brethren.

In 2012, experts found a part of the skull of a mosasaur in one of the Canadian provinces. Thanks to this, paleontologists found out that among the underwater monsters battles could take place, leading to the mosasaurs eating their congeners. The find - a skull about a meter long, belonged to an individual whose size reached six meters in length. A bite mark was found under the eye of a representative of the species Mosasaurus missouriensis - a fairly large hole.

The attacker left his long tooth in the eye socket, which made the wound unable to heal. Examining it, scientists found out that the tooth belonged to a representative of the same species. Thus, paleontologists suggested that clashes between mosasaurs were quite frequent.
