Scientists before a solar eclipse have established that the eruption of Yellowstone volcano should begin very soon. And so it happened: during a natural phenomenon on August 21, the volcano woke up.
Scientists say that the force of the eruptions is a record in the entire history of Yellowstone.
Before the event, 6 earthquakes occurred in the volcano area. The average strength of the shocks was 3.2 points. Scientists are sure that it was the earthquakes that initiated the awakening.
Earthquakes were recorded at 3:00 UTC. Later it turned out that the epicenter of the phenomena was at a depth of 9 and a half kilometers. Since August 1, scientists have counted 863 earthquakes in Yellowstone. The figure is quite impressive.
Over the next few days, the eruptions will continue, because the volcano was affected not only by numerous tremors, but also by two eclipses. In addition, if the lava emissions stop, then earthquakes are unlikely. The earth's crust is already very seismically active.
Scientists want to stop the eruptions either by bypassing the volcano or by pumping large amounts of water under pressure. However, both options are quite risky, so now they are being actively discussed, weighing all possible risks.
