How many years have passed since someone thought to look at their reflection in the water? How long ago did people start using bronze or silver dishes as mirrors? The first, far from perfect mirrors appeared in Ancient Sumeria, India, Egypt. And it happened about five thousand years ago! But glass mirrors began to be made in the XII century in Venice. And they cost insane money, and the secret of making this, in the full sense of the word, a precious item was kept in the strictest confidence. The glassmaking center was located near Venice, on the island of Murano, and the craftsmen lived there in isolation from the outside world.
