Employees of the publication Business Insider published data on the pollution of the Earth's orbit on the eve. It turned out that in 20-25 years space debris will begin to fall en masse on the planet's surface, which can lead to the death of humanity.
Scientists have focused on the fact that the speed of movement of debris in orbit is several times higher than on Earth. Experts have calculated that an object as small as 1 millimeter can accelerate to thousands of miles per hour. At the same time, after a collision with another object, the trajectory of movement changes, and as a result, it can fall to the surface of the Earth. Space debris includes debris from satellites, instruments lost by astronauts, waste from ships and the ISS.
If the trend of increasing the area of debris continues, then a potentially small object in the future can easily destroy one of the continents, causing an apocalypse on Earth. In addition, the amount of garbage in the next 10 years may double, and in 20-25 years this waste will be able to destroy Europe or Asia in an instant.
