A casual and very attentive passer-by literally saved the lives of five at once. What if he just hadn't noticed the squirrels? And how could this happen to animals?

A large shaggy ball of wool was found in Wisconsin by a random person. He brought the find to veterinarians, who realized that they were facing squirrels, which were so entangled in their tails that they could not disengage.

The message about the rescue operation was published on its Facebook page by a rehabilitation center for animals from Wisconsin (USA). The squirrels were given anesthesia to unravel them. In addition to wool, building material from the nest - branches and grass - got into the woven tails of animals. The veterinarians went into some really gem-quality surgical work to save the squirrels. They worried that the squirrels' tail tissue might be damaged by pinched blood vessels.

During the operation, doctors cut out all unnecessary things from the knot, making sure not to cut off the tail. The squirrels themselves did not even have time to get scared during the procedure, since they were sleeping at that moment. It took about 20 minutes to untangle their tails.

Now the animals are in a rehabilitation center, where veterinarians make sure that they do not develop necrosis due to circulatory disorders. The squirrels have recovered from the anesthesia normally and are doing well, but their tails still look strange.

Veterinarians did not say anything about the reasons why squirrels could get so tangled in their tails.
