Almost 2% of the Earth's surface is covered with fresh water. This leaves a large, very large gap for numerous legends and tales associated with the lake monsters - take at least the well-known Loch Ness monster. However, in this article, we will not repeat the idle bikes common in the tourist environment. Instead, we'll explore stories of much lesser-known creatures that strike fear in the lakeside community.
Auisotl
In the Aztec Nahuatl language, Auisotl means "thorny water". In the surviving manuscripts, the monster is described as a hyena able to swim, on whose tail a human palm grows. And this creature knew how to lure to itself, faking the screams of a desperate woman or child - in general, the Aztecs with fantasy are fine.
Mishepisha
The Ojibwe people of the Great Lakes have named their personal monster Mishepisha, the great lynx. It was believed that this creature knows how to make waves and even sink fishing boats. The appearance of Mishepisha was described in different ways, converging only in the presence of scales and bony protrusions on the head and back of the animal.

Had ntouka
Something like a rhino that frightened the naive members of the Lingala tribe who lived in Central Africa. The huge creature lived near the water and attacked local residents only during the full moon. All other days of the month of Lingala they prayed to the beast, leaving human sacrifices on the shore.
El Quero
The name can be translated from Spanish as "carnivorous cow hide." The habitat of this strange creature chose the foothills of the Andes. Judging by the description, El Quero could be something like a land ray, capable of drinking the blood of its victims and jumping out of the water.
Dobhar-ku
Irish Dobhar-ku is a huge creature, a hybrid of an otter and a wolf. He has impervious skin and an unquenchable thirst for blood. The Irish believed that the dobhar-ku hunted only horses that had strayed from the herd, so they were especially careful at the watering place.
Grootslang
Something that seemed to creep out into African lakes from a third-rate horror movie. Grutslang is an elephant-headed snake that lives in one of the caverns of the diamond cave. I must say that this gloomy creature manages to save the lives of children who would be forced to pull out diamonds in very dangerous conditions: superstitions keep parents from such assignments.
Isshi
This creature unknown to science lives in Lake Ikeda. Isshi has appeared in public several times - so, at least, local newspapers claim. In addition, the monster was spotted by the Japanese military. In 1961, a helicopter fell on the surface of the lake and the soldiers had to search for its remains with sonar. In addition to the steel debris, the divers discovered a strange creature that quickly slid into the darkness from the light of the searchlights.
