Popcorn Beach: A whole beach of natural "popcorn"! Fuerteventura is the second largest island in the Canary archipelago. It is here, in the town of Corralejo, that there is an unusual beach, which seems to be strewn with white popcorn. In fact, beach "popcorn" is petrified seaweed that washed ashore, where it mixed with volcanic rocks and sand. Recently, thanks to social media, the beaches of Corralejo have seen an influx of tourists. Everyone wants to take a bright and unusual photo in this place. In this regard, local authorities are sounding the alarm.

The fact is that tourists not only take a photo with natural "popcorn", but also take it away with them. It is estimated that about 120 kilograms of fossils are removed from the beach every year. Biologists note that algae grow very slowly - at a rate of only 1 mm per year. It turns out that it will take 250 years for the alga to grow by 25 cm. In the meantime, these algae are extremely important. They absorb carbon dioxide, and fish lay eggs in their cavities.

In order to deal with the problem, the island's authorities have introduced an information program. Now guides and tour operators will inform visitors to Popcorn Beach about the inadmissibility of the export of "popcorn".
