Scientists processing the information collected by space "astrologer" GAIA have published a video (see below) that shows the future of the Milky Way galaxy.
This is how the Galaxy will look in five million years, writes the RIA Novosti news agency, referring to the Universe Today portal.
The data from which the video was created was collected by the Gaia orbiter (Global Astrometric Interferometer for Astrophysics, GAIA). The scientific probe, which is currently located one and a half million kilometers from our planet, at one of the points of gravitational equilibrium, was launched at the end of 2013.
The key mission of the GAIA spacecraft is to observe the stars that make up our galaxy. The telescope measures the coordinates and speeds of billions of stars, providing astronomers with invaluable information.
On the basis of which, in particular, this visualization of the evolution of the Galaxy was created. In five million years, as scientists note, the Galaxy will change beyond recognition - the constellations we are used to will disappear, and completely new ones will come in their place. So if you move millions of years ahead, then do not be alarmed when you find an "alien" starry sky.
