In those days, the main asset was fresh water, which was practically inaccessible, but the resourcefulness of the Persians helped them. With the help of long calculations, the Persians managed to bring to life one of the most ambitious engineering projects of antiquity. Scientists and now still cannot believe that the ancient Persians succeeded.
It's all about the underground aqueduct, which transported fresh water to the settlements. The ancient Persians noticed that there was fresh water at some depth. In some incomprehensible way, they managed to find out that this water flows from Elbrus, so it was decided to start implementing the project of an underground aqueduct by punching wells. The image of the view shows the scheme according to which the Persians acted. They calculated the slope and began to punch wells in the ground, every few meters. With pinpoint accuracy in these stony soils, they managed to perform flawlessly work. When the vertical wells were dug, the next step was to break through the horizontal aqueduct, which connected all the wells and allowed fresh water to be transferred to the settlements.
This engineering solution allowed the ancient Persians to solve the main problem and thanks to this the inhabitants were able to develop, engage in agriculture and build unprecedented palaces.
