Various types of spirits, both good and evil, which are believed to be able to interfere in human affairs.

In Christianity, all demons are considered as evil creatures (fiends of hell). Their sole purpose is to tempt and torment people, and also to lead them into sin. Gods and goddesses of pagan religions were declared demons in Christianity. In other religions, these creatures can be good, evil, or ambivalent.

The very word "demon" means "full of wisdom" and comes from the Greek "Damon" - "divine power", "destiny" and "god". The ancient Greeks considered daemons rather guardian spirits.

There are even some sort of classifications and hierarchies of demons in various religions. The Testament of Solomon, which appeared between 100 and 400 CE, lists the names and purposes of Hebrew, Greek, Assyrian, Babylonian, Egyptian, and apparently Persian demons. Solomon supposedly knew how to subdue demons (they were called "jinn") to his will, putting on a magic ring. To this day, in different countries of the world, magic rituals have been preserved, which, as some believe, allow you to summon and even subdue demons.

Christian demonologists of the 16th and 17th centuries went so far as to elaborate detailed schemes for the organization of demons. For example, a certain Johann Weier made calculations and received that there are a total of 7,405,926 demons in the service of 72 "princes of hell." Jewish demonology was also complex. One of the demon classes is "in charge" of creating an atmosphere of terror at night. Representatives of this class attack sleeping men, children, women and suck their blood and life juices.

Demons are most often responsible for many different kinds of misfortunes and misfortunes. For this reason, in the cultures of many peoples of the world, there were rites of exorcism - that is, ways of driving out demons (see Shamanism).

In Catholic Christianity, for cases of possession, that is, such a state of a person when demons (another name for demons) are fighting to take possession of his soul, special exorcism procedures have been developed dating back to 1614.

It is widely believed that sex with demons is possible, although the activity is very unpleasant, if not terrifying. All the peoples of the world unanimously considered that as a result of such a love union, only monsters can be born. Some of the demons that terrify people at night, do not shy away, according to some testimonies, and sexual harassment of their victims. In the Middle Ages, wise Christian dignitaries proclaimed that sex with demons was a sign of witchcraft. At the same time, a succubus - a demon in the form of a dissolute woman - comes at night to sleeping men for copulation, and an incubus - a demon who took the form of a man - passionately solicits women.

It was also believed that the incubus themselves were not able to fertilize a woman, but they could do it by collecting the seed of ordinary men at night. In many descriptions of cases of obsession, there was a sexual motive in some way. It is even possible that the suppression of sexual urges in oneself (especially by nuns, who for some reason very often became possessed) played at least no less important role than demonic forces. In some cases of poltergeist, including those that were recorded relatively recently, mentions of sexual harassment of demons also appeared.
