Utilities in the city of Cedar City, where this happened, are removing dead birds from parking lots and streets, and local bird watchers are recruiting surviving birds with fractures, dislocations, bruises and concussions. During the day, they collected about two thousand unfortunate birds and sent them to rehabilitation on a large pond that does not freeze in winter, located quite far from the residential areas of the city.

Local experts say they will not remember a misfortune of this magnitude. And the "mass suicide" of birds is explained by the fact that from the height of their flight they took the wet shiny asphalt for water bodies.
“Thunderclouds hung low over the city. Lit open areas from the air could look like the surface of water. The birds sat down to rest and crashed on the sidewalk,”says State Wildlife Officer Teresa Griffin.
