Archaeologists made a sensational find. In the mountains of the Borjomi Gorge, they discovered the remains of mysterious creatures, about which the locals had been making legends for centuries. As it turned out, tales of huge giants are, in fact, reality. What secret did this highland keep?
The bones belong to giant people. They lived 25 thousand years ago in the mountains of the Borjomi Gorge. Scientists claim that the height of a giant man could be from 2.5 to 3 meters. Academician Abesalom Vekua believes that the find could become a sensation, since the topic of the giants who inhabited certain regions of Eurasia tens of thousands of years ago has long been discussed in scientific circles.
Abesalom Vekua, Academician of the Georgian Academy of Sciences: “Pay attention to the thigh bone, it differs from the bone of a modern person in its size and thickness. The skull is also much larger. These people lived and developed separately from the rest of civilization, and therefore differed in growth. In the scientific literature, they are referred to as giants, but there was no documentary evidence for this hypothesis. Thus, we are on the verge of a sensation. But this will be preceded by painstaking work”.
The legend of the giants in the highlands of the Borjomi Gorge was passed down from generation to generation. Local shepherds and hunters claim that their ancestors told about super-strong giants who lived in these mountains a long time ago.
Murman Shirakadze, forester: “My grandfather talked about these strange creatures that used to live here. Someone probably told him about it too. There are harsh living conditions in the mountains, untouched nature to this day, perhaps that is why only a superman could survive in those days."
A group of 15 people, including archaeologists, paleontologists and historians, left the hunting lodge and went on an expedition high into the mountains. How long they had to go to the "Valley of the Giants", no one could say for sure. Ahead of them were steep slopes, icy mountain rivers and encounters with forest predators. The only female member of the expedition - journalist Lela Ninua - recalls the week spent far from civilization as an extreme game of survival.
Lela Ninua, journalist of the Good Morning program of the Rustavi-2 TV company: “We had to get our own food. This is mainly the fish of their mountain rivers. After all, you can't take a lot of food with you: it's hard. Gathered mushrooms. At night, they were on duty in groups, as bears and wolves sneaked up on us. Once I fell behind and got lost. Can't imagine, she cried bitterly. They found me after half an hour, but it seemed like an eternity had passed."
The enthusiasm of the expedition members was rewarded. The settlement of giants - this is it. Now from the settlement of strange creatures there are stone paths and dilapidated crypts. The area is littered with bones. They were raised to the surface by mountain streams, which flood in the spring, when the snows melt.

This uninhabited mountain range of the Borjomi Gorge can turn into a real Eldorado for scientists. It is now known for sure that the Valley of the Giants is not a myth. The next, already more numerous and equipped expedition will head here next summer. In the meantime, Georgian scientists, together with their foreign colleagues, will have to study in detail the unique material that has been discovered.
