Near Voronezh is the ancient village of Anoshkino, created on the left bank of the Don River in 1695.
Long flooded meadows of fertile land and bays rich in catch have become a permanent location for many generations. They did not abandon their native land, despite the attacks of robbers, nomads and residents of the neighboring village.
Church made of stone. In 1789, the stone church of the Ascension of the Lord was erected. The local people were very happy with the new building, most of them helped the workers in every possible way, because the huge stone church is a luxury item that is not found in many other villages. But the year 1917 came, and the fight against dissent reached this area. The parishioners feared the anger of the authorities, and the temple was gradually taken away by thieves. The local priest, who tried to put the Chekists on the path of the true, was shot together with his family.
For 20 years there was silence in the church, and the building was decorated with party mottos, until it was decided to arrange a button factory in the former church. The believers could not hold back their tears when they looked at the destruction of the vault of the temple. The place of the altar was now occupied by machines. People prayed in secret and asked for help from the holy powers.
And they were heard … Andrei Yudin and the face of the Mother of God Early in the morning of 1950, people living in two villages on the banks of the river woke up from a strong roar that resembled thunder. The sound came from a chalk cliff rising above the water. Nearby stood the hut of the beacon Andrei Yudin, who transported people from shore to shore.
Residents thought that he was in trouble and rushed to help. In total, about 20 people gathered from each bank, armed with axes and buckets. At that moment the buoykeeper himself was trying to tell something, pointing to the chalk cliff. Making sure that he was safe, several people climbed to the high bank and saw that the face of the icon of the Mother of God was clearly displayed on the rock.
Most of the eyewitnesses claimed that they involuntarily began to be baptized and read Our Father. The good news did not pass by the local authorities, and an hour later they were already at the scene in the company of the police. After interrogation, everyone was ordered to go home, and Andrei Yudin was arrested and deported to Voronezh for an investigation.
The next day, a climber studied the rock and said that the face was not painted, but as it were, imprinted into the rock, and there was no way to remove it. A few weeks later, Yudin was released, and he told the local residents about the appearance of the Mother of God to him. She allegedly told him that people should not desecrate the Church of the Ascension, as it is under the protection of God.

Springs of Anoshkino. After the incident, things did not go very well at the newly-made factory, the locals did not want to work there, and the newcomers did not manage to settle down. After a while, the production was closed, and a year later the equipment was removed. The rock with the image of the Mother of God, which once towered over the river, was blown up. The authorities said that this was the destruction of ammunition during the Great Patriotic War, but the villagers were well aware of the real reason.
The government of those times simply could not look at the proof of this miracle. Three springs appeared near the explosion site. The water in them is clear and rich in various microelements. People who have visited this place talk about the healing properties of water. Today the temple is being restored and included in the register of monuments in the Voronezh region.
