Scientists at the University of Queensland are confident that in the future, quantum computers will provide an opportunity to control the structure of time and space.

“Imagine two spaceships that must fire at each other at a certain time, while simultaneously dodging an enemy attack. It is logical that if one of them fires too early, he will destroy the other. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, an enemy from the outside could use the principles of general relativity by placing a sufficiently massive object - for example, a planet - closer to one spacecraft to slow down the passage of time. Due to the time lag, a ship farther from the massive object will fire earlier, destroying the one closer to the planet,”Magdalena Zich, one of the study authors, physicist at the University of Queensland, told Science Daily.

In the implementation of such a principle, according to researchers, quantum computers of the future can help. They, hypothetically, will be able to use Einstein's theory of relativity and quantum mechanics with its principle of superposition (a superposition of states that cannot be realized simultaneously from the classical point of view).

“If this becomes a reality, then a new way of development of events would appear, in which none of the events would be the first or the second, but in a true quantum state it could be both the first and the second. Such quantum computers would be able to perform operations much more efficiently than devices operating in a fixed sequence at the time we are accustomed to,”says Zich.
