All life forms on our planet came from distant stars through meteors, comets and cosmic dust containing extraterrestrial bacteria and viruses. Microscopic alien organisms have controlled the evolution and development of life on Earth since the first single-celled organisms emerged, proving the existence of extraterrestrial life, scientists say.

The concept of panspermia - that life on Earth is a product of alien DNA - may be traced back to the ancient Greeks. In more modern times, it has been strongly championed by the British astronomer Sir Fred Hoyle. The late Sir Fred believed that DNA arrived on comets, arguing that the complexity of life is too great to arise without outside influence.
